Hey,

Im having a problem with my land rover. its a 1990 110 land rover defender, that has just had a Reconditioned 200TDI engine. I cant remember what the old engine was, but it was oringinal. That engine was toterly had it. Black smoke so we had this engine built and installed.

The problem is, that this engine it wont go back 50MPH!! The engine is pretty loud and i cant explain this very well but you know when you go down a steep bank in the snow and nice, and you ride in a low gear like 3rd and you can feel the engine holding back its like that when you drive at 50 and take it out of gear and put it back in and release the gearbox or something like that is the problem :S

If anyone can help me then thanks!!

clutch wont slow vehicle, take it back ,get them to look at it ,dont take bull**** ,and give slightly better info

Sorry that was a typo. i ment to say gearbox or something like that. The old engine did have the same problem. But that engine was toterly knackered and had it.

can you explain a bit more ,are you thinking transmission holding engine back or poor engine

I think transmission holding the engine back. The engine has power and it can go but going up to 50mph it gets loud and feels like im pushing the engine.... The engine has just been built and we are trying to run it in. But up to 50 it really struggles and feels like im pushing it. I dont really think its the engine. but could be wrong... So thats why im here

work engine hard but not over unloaded reving diesel dont want to be nursed while running in or you will glaze bores, jack one front wheel up see if its stuck in difflock ,push vehicle on level hard surface see if brakes foot and hand are binding, does enigine have harsh diesel knock

Hmm nah not a silly question>? I feel stupid now because now u said it im not sure lol. I think it drives in High range... Im not sure, how do you check?
There is a little gear nob like just before the gear stick.

Sorry did you read the owners manual??? If it didn't come with one your fault for not asking you could buy one . they explain how things work just gota read

pull it back and over to right ,forward is low ,to left in hi or low is diff lock on same lever but seperate operations

Hi, its pulled back towards the seat. i think it has 3 ranges. Forward, middle, and straight back. Thing forward is low. cant remember what middle is. And back is high. So if i change that, that would help?

middle is neutral on transfer box,try both sometimes linkage can be connected to lever reversing lever position for hi/low

Hey thanks for reply. I just went out and checked
forward is for Low
Middle is for Normal
And straight back is for High,

its always left in high... if that helps

no left means its in diff lock if system in good condition leave in high jack front wheel should spin free if dosent and moves a little and locks its in diff lock, this will give wind up in system as you drive

if you get really stuck mate pm me and i will come to you if you are only in wolves at worst we can both stand around looking baffled .
