Hi all

I have a 2004 TD5 disco manual, it's currently my wife's daily drive and we have noticed that going up hills requires a lot of gear changes lately (I know they don't fly up hills but this is worse than normal). it also whilst you are driving has little power dips, with your foot on the accelerator you can feel it lose power and then come back its all over in a second.

I have recently replaced the fuel and air filter when I replaced them I filled the fuel filter with injector clean and took it out for a drive and revved it hard and got quite abit of black smoke out of the rear, it still has an EGR valve in place.

Any ideas what to look at next?

Thanks

Rob

Have had similar problems in the past and there can be multiple causes. One of the most common ones you hear is the oil in the ECU red plug which can really badly affect performance, its an easy job to take it out to check and clean if need be. Another common one is a dead MAF sensor, you can check if its dead by simply unplugging it and going for a drive. Another sensor that can cause bad performance is the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold and seems as the EGR is still in place, its probably quite common thats it's gunked up. Take it out, clean it off and see if that makes a difference. Maybe the waste gate is sticking perhaps? After that you start getting into more complex things like a worn cam, dodgy fuel pump and all that. Theres lots of Td5 experts on here which will be able to give you a more information, but they are the most common things that cause power loss in Td5's. You will find taking to someone who can code read it will be able to give you a good indicator as to what to do next. Also, that EGR... its gotta go!
