My lower tailgate switch is not working and neither are the reverse lights. I noticed an earlier post in 2010 but no positive response. The fuses are OK. Is this a relay that needs replacing, if so which one?:(

Reverse lamps and tailgate acutators are both mounted in the lower tailgate itself...if they both don't work then I would be suspecting the wiring harness....

On the P38, there was a way to unlock the tail gate by getting to the lower tailgate wiring loom and shorting the relevant wires out...particularly if you have a towing socket!

Wonder if someone has either had a go at doing the same on your L322, or the loom has been damaged or suffered water ingress somewhere!

And yes Keith, mine is unresolved...currently bypassed the relay (which works) to cycle the lock solenoids...my issue seems to be the BCU isn't allowing the lower section to be opened!...the switch works, the locks work, the relay works and the car unlocks the top half....and heres the weird thing.....if you let the interior lamps go out, if you press the lower tailgate switch, the lamps re-illuminate (so the BCU knows the switch has been pressed and tells the LCM to switch the lamps on) but it won't command the locks to work!!

The car has just been in the garage for a new air suspension compressor and they told me that also the tow hook was giving conflicting errors to the computer so they would disconnect it. I was getting an error message 'check trailer lights'. Sounds a bit of a coincidence to me?

Hmmmmm, time to check the loom and connections for damage and/or corrosion!
