Hi, I bought a 3 door 2000 diesel Freelander. It got a hard starting issue when cold and hot.
I've noticed there is no pipe connected to the MAP sensor. Should that go to the turbo just below the waste gate pipe? The connection on the turbo looks bigger then on the MAP sensor. Apart from hard starting it got no power, top speed 100km/h.

Never looked at the MAP sensor - always assumed it was just wire that would go to it.

Hard starting is usually bad injection pump timing often caused by a worm pump belt.

Might also be the non return valve in the hand pump allowing fuel to drain back to the tank.

Hi, thanks turned out to be bolts coming loose on fuel pump/cam pulley yes. One fell out. So pulley moved on slots. Starts like a dream now. Still need to go for a rest run to check power.
Does anybody know torque settings for the 4 bolts? Loctite?
Also would it be possible to look at the map sensor for the pipe? How does the sensor read pressure without pipe connected?
Thanks in advance!!

I don't know about the bolts.

So the MAP sensor doesn't check pressure inside the manifold, although presumably it should be the same. There's a description here...
