Hi there!
I've noticed that the crankcase gases are excessive on my L series FL1.

I had the EGR refitted for the MOT and left it connected.
Can the EGR valve affect crankcase ventilation if it's not opening correctly?
Or could it trigger the MIL?
I have no idea why this is happening.
I don't believe the engine is worn out; it has around 270,000 kilometers (167,000 miles).
Any opinions?

P.s: If I open the oil filler cap while the motor is running, it keeps wobbling around and the oil is dripping from the breather tube connection...
 
At 167k miles it could be worn out, especially if you do not know its history.
Many years ago I knew a rover with the same engine with big miles, it breathed like a pig and leaked oil everywhere, but still started and drove well.
With the oil cap loose but resting in its hole, does it blow off when you rev it up?
Oil dripping from breather pipe if excessive does not sound good, have you tried routing the pipe into a bottle (make sure the pipe is not a tight fit) to see how much oil it is passing?
Rare engine now.
 
My L Series always starts and runs well. It also still has decent fuel economy.

I wouldn't mind betting it has some pretty serious problems though. It definitely can't keep hold of its fluids and bellows smoke as times.

Its on about 225,000 kms.

When I had the cylinder head off, the cylinder walls appeared to be in good condition.
Starting it is not a problem, even though the battery is near the end of its life.
Also, the oil cap wobbles around when I start it.
I will check the EGR valve, as it might be seized up, and inspect the vacuum lines as well

If the cap doesn't blow off, but sort of flutters on over the hole, then the wear isn't too bad.
A good visual bore condition isn't a guarantee of perfectly sealing rings. The bores can wear out of round, allowing the pistons to rock and loose compression, and rings can wear, loosing more compression.
However if the only symptom is a bit of blow-by, then I'd not be overly bothered myself, as long as it doesn't smoke too badly.
 
There isn't much smoke, but what's bothering me is the leaking oil from the breather tube (the clamp is tightened) and the MIL coming on when you are holding the throttle pedal

You mean into the tubing from the valve cover (see image) for the ex. gases?
