knocking rattle off load

I know this has probably been done to death, but Im new to these parts and havent trawled through the pages as yet.

I have a 2000 Freelander Xdi, and it makes a good awful knocking rattle noise which appears to be coming from somewhere by the OS rear wheel area, it only does it when easing off juice before braking, and when you depress clutch it stops, so if when coming to a junction if I slow down by going down the gears no problem, but if I let it slow down itself all hell breaks lose back there.

It has had a new viscous coupling put on only last week

does it have a hub cap? May have a stone or something inside it.

If that is a no go put it up on jack stands and have somebody get it up to speed and then let off, while you try and pin point the noise. If you use somebody you don't like, like maybe somone from this forum! When they get it up to speed you can kick it off of the stands and call the insurance company

Try that lot, there should be summat in there that may help.It does sound like a dif mount at first sight tho..with you there hatters, there are some right fruit bats here....and don't **** Slob off.......

Diff mount bushes were worn so changed them, still no change, cv seems solid enough

One thing that hasnt been mentioned is cracked subframe mount - usually front one - that mite be worth investigating, along with Cashews lengthy tombe.

Dont forget Taipan's rattle ordeal, speaking of Taipan, anyone heard of him or did he sell up and move on

Obiwan - you just gotta get it up on ramps and have a look
