Hi there, I have a 1968 series 2a, but it’s recently developed a few knocking noises. I’ll try to explain where they’re coming from:

1) in the raised tunnel between the gear stick and the middle front seat. At very slow speed, going down hill.

2) another “knock” sounds like it’s coming from behind the steering wheel / to the right of the steering wheel (it’s Right Hand Drive) again, at very slow speed.

3) the near side door handle (original) sounds like it’s about to rattle itself apart. I’m expecting it to drop off any minute. The thing is that it works perfectly well - the near side door closes perfectly and doesn’t rattle - but as soon as I move off, the inside of the handle sounds like a mix of loose nuts and bolts!

If anyone has any ideas please, that would be great.

Many thanks in advance….
Tom

Welcome to LZ.

Stick a video up on youtube and link to here, then we can hear what you can hear.

good morning, as above re the vid,
have you got a pic just for interest, if its been newly renovated it may be some parts are coming loose, ie suspension and gearbox mounts
Perhaps the handle really does have loose nuts and bolts rattling around,
Atb and good luck,

I can’t hear rattles in mine for the grinding and screeching.

Lucky buggrer 🤣 just showing off ain’t ya 😜

You’ll probably end up going through the whole drive train trying to get to the bottom of it. I know I have had to more than once. There is an awful lot of stuff going on under there.

3 seconds long, but you can still hear the knock 6 times in those 3 seconds...

Two fast ones at the start "Da-da"

If i was counting them rhythmically I'd say "Da-da" two, three, four, Da-da"....

Time to get underneath and check for play, shake the exhaust and check mountings
check mountings on engine and gearbox
feel for play on propshafts and on ball joints and drop arms as someone moves steering wheel
is wheel nuts tight
