Keys!!!

Hi all,

Totally new to Landrovers never owned one until last week. So far so good I'm starting to see why these cars are addictive:doh: Anyway my 2001 Disco TD5 only came with one key which has the two buttons on the key.

This worries me I much preffer knowing I have a spare key at home. How expensive is it to get another key cut & programmed?
Is this a main dealer job only or can this been done else where? I live in Ayrshire up in Scotland

the only thing is you might need to get the key from LR if you want buttons on it

i got a car a few years ago with only one key, woke up 4 days later and the car had gone ??? car was never found !!!
just my luck !! never had any with cars

the td5 has to have the proper key(for the imobliser) and it has to be programed to the car a local indepandant should do the job for around £80 and if you give them the vin then the key will come ready cut and also you can have any other keys programed to the car removed if you ask

The key fob comes in 2 bits,. the blade and the fob which has to be programmed to suit your car.

The blade can be cut anywhere the fob different story. the exercise cost me £90 for a complete new key inc fob programmed.

so don't leave your keys in your strides before you put them in the wash !!!!!!!!!!

should have got a disco 1.. my fob's been through the wash.. not reccomended though.. the aspirin required to keep your heart beating while you dry it out and test to see if it works probably cost more than 90 quid..

I lost a key for my TD5.

Fortunately my local independant dealer (in Edinburgh: http://www.whitesautoservices.com/ ) got a blank from the main dealer at cost, and reprogrammed it. All for £90.

Otherwise I found (but didn;t use so I can't recommend) these guys:
