Disco 2 More alarm problems

After losing the unlock microswitch on my old key fob i got a new one and had it programmed to my D2.
Now if i lock using the new key and unlock on the key the red light on the dash goes out but as soon as i open the door even a fraction the alarm goes of and i have to put the key in the ignition and turn to position 2 to stop it.
It never used to do this and it only started when i lost the unlock microswitch on the old key, I just assumed it was something to do with the loss of the microswitch.
Locking and unlocking on the buttons is fine.
Have had nanocom plugged in and no faults are showing.
Any ideas please ???

No, that isn't abnormal. Unlocking with the key will always cause the alarm to go off when you open the door. It's a pain but there you go.

If it didn't do it before I have no idea why. I would imagine when you have unlocked the door on the key that doesn't turn off the movement sensor and alarm. Probably a good security thing in case some scrote manages to copy your key but doesn't have your fob.

No expert here as you know, but in the end is it that much of a pain? As long as the fob buttons work?

Please concentrate to not mix up things again cos then i'll not be able to help... You say that after you unlock with the key the alarm goes off and it started when you lost the microswitch... did you unlock with the key before that too while the fob was fully working and it didnt act like that? ... cos i dont see why would you use the key as long as the fob is working. So if you discovered this symptom first time when you unlocked with the key when the fob failed regardless it means that the alarm is not set to "always disarm with key" and that's how it behaves then regardless of the fob's situation... before going further if you have acees to nanocom check the alarm settings and make sure thatthe "alarm disarm" option is set to"always".

I'm with you on this. (Although he did say the alarm only sounded on opening the door.)

Surely his car is now set to the normal factory setting?

And yes I can't understand why he would be bothered about opening the door with the key when he can do it from the fob!!!

Unless the alarm is set to "always disarm with key" which is not the factory setting and must be set with nanocom or similar, The factory setting is "key never" as the LR engineers were scrupulous and didnt want to let the vehicle to be opened with a fake key or screwdriver without the alarm to go of, there are more options and the most troublefree for the driver is "always". This is sticky Recommendation for D2 owners

So we are in agreement. Factory setting is that it goes off if a scrote unlocks it with a fake key then opens a door.

I think the OP will get the message and leave well alone. At least I hope so!

Hi and thank you both your answers.
So to answer your questions,
I have always been able to unlock with the key if it was locked with the key since I've had the car (about 3 years) and the alarm has never gone of when i opened the door, thought this was normal.
I lock it on the key because sometimes i leave my dogs in it and don't want the alarm to go of when they move about, and lock on key/unlock on key is what i got used to, think i now need to remember to use fob to unlock in future.
I assume that as what it does now is "normal" this is why a nanocom showed no faults.
Still confused as to how/why it changed but good to know i can have it put back if i want, not bothered if someone opened the door with the dogs in it as they wont hang around long, (the scrotes not the dogs).

You can't expect the same functions from a tool which is quarter the price of nanocom though

And that's my dilemma at the moment. A £164 tool that does quite a lot and can also be used on the Jaguar XK8 and the F-Pace vs a £450 tool that does everything on a D2 but nought else. I vacillate between the two on alternate days.

I totally get your point.
I bought my Foxwell because I needed something to do, let's call it, the basics. It does that fine.
It has also helped me with other vehicles that are not even Jag/LR. Of course it has limitations, but the price of the Nano is nearly a 1/4 the price of the vehicle it would be working on. I cannot justifiy it until I get to the point where nothing else will do the job. I have yet to get to that.
If I was absolutely totally in love with my D2 I'd get one, but I'm not, yet!
