Hi, Im new to Landyzone as i have just bought a 2004 Discovery 2.

I am having some problems with losing power whilst driving. I feel a bit of a shudder and then i lose power.

I cant quite put my finger on the cause of the problem as it is intermittent but getting worse.

When the power goes i have been pulling up and removing the key, opened the bonnet to check for oil leaks or similar and nothing stands out.

When i try to start her up again it doesnt fire up easily and i have to leave the starter turning for 5-10 secs before ignition if at all.

If anyone can make any suggestions of what i should be looking at it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks discodrivercumbria, I shall introduce myself on the forum shortly and tomorrow ill have a look at the harness.

Having read a few similar threads im also going to look at the fuel pump Gauge/gauze as this could be clogged up?

Once again thanks for your suggestion

Hi, mines a TD5 i should probably have mentioned this earlier.

So this morning i took the ECU out to have a look at the connections and to check for oil but both the black and red plugs seem clean (pics to follow).

Im still assuming that the fuel injection loom could be damaged inside

Can anyone tell me a simple way to test the fuel pump and to see if the guaze is clogged up

So heres a few pics of connections to the ecu and also the connection that plugs into the fuel injector harness on the outside (front left of engine)

and a few more pics, does anyone think the general condition of the loom that goes to the ecu looks shoddy?

anyhelp much appreciated

1. It's only the red ECU plug you need to check;

2. There's no oil on the ECU sockets so your injector loom is OK.

I would be looking into the in-tank fuel pump if I were you, as it sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem.

First I would be doing some listening: turn the ign to pos II and listen to the fuel pump and filter housing by the rear driver side wheel - what do you hear?

What you should hear is a pumping and squelching noise (priming) for about 30secs then the pump should stop.

If it pumps for longer, there is either air getting into the fuel circuit or your fuel pump is not functioning correctly.

Next step I would want to look at the fuel pump itself to see if the filter in it is blocked. To do this remove the boot carpet and insulation; remove the access hatch; disconnect the fuel lines; unscrew the retaining collar and remove the fuel pump noting VERY CAREFULLY THE ORIENTATION OF THE FLOAT.

The nylon gauze filter is at the base of the pump assembly.

Hey TheBigLad

Thanks for your reply, I will have a listen to fuel pump when i get her back (shes having new dunlop airbags fitted under warranty at the moment).

I did ask the bloke at the garage if he could try and diagnose it for me but he started talking about crankshaft sensors so i lost faith in his ability to some extent

get an EGR blanking kit put on, try the maf filter, my looked ok, you cannot clean em, some try and say successful, i replaced it and what a difference, also i did the valve on the fuel filter housing, that made a difference too!,

So a quick update, The garage that replaced the air suspension also replaced the fuel filter for me then they broke down out on a test drive..... Going to suggest they replace the injector seals on monday. They are insistant that they want to dry other diagnostic equipment...????

Hi, I have not been able to have a listen myself to the fuel pump as the bloke at the garage that replaced the airbags has now sent my disco to a friend of his to look at today. I have my fingers crossed but thanks to all of you I have a few things to check and suggest to them.

Many thanks, i'll hopefully have some news later today

So I finally got a call today and saying that the injector seals need replacing and thats its possibly got a cracked cylinder :-( Feeling pretty miserable its got to be said and the quote for labour and parts for the injector seals was best part of £500.

Ive spoken to other garages that will do the same job for about £200ish but if it is a cracked cylinder i'm pretty screwed i assume?

Im going to take a drive over to the garage this evening and have a look and listen to the full pump

even £200 quid for injector seals is unbalievable
£20 for seals 1 hours labour
it an easy diy job
visit discovery2.co.uk site it has a walk threw of the job

Tomorrow the injector seals and o rings are being replaced along with new silicone hoses and an EGR blanking kit. My remote suspension is also being programmed so two birds with one stone

Just for the sake of it I thought id post a picture of the EGR blanking kit and silicone hoses I bought. I'll probably post a couple of fitted pictures on Saturday.

Finally picked up the disco tonight, all running well. Will take some photos of the egr blanking kit tomorrow. Had new injector seals and o rings plus a full drain and service of everything. Ran it at 2000rpm for two hours with no power loss or other problems
