just come back on the motorway - flat, no head or tail wind 60mph at a c**k hair under 2000rpm
'98 disco, no mods just a clean air filter..don't ask about the mpg i have stopped calculating as it scares me!!!

Hi Daza, just checked my revs/mph and mine seems quite different to your ie 60mph = 2500rpm.

What size tyres are you running?

is that registered road speed on speedo - or via satnav?

It's registered road speed on the speedo. Did you see Daza's figures 60mph at just under 2000rpm?? Alot lower than mine.

If you run non-std tyres I understand that this can throw out the gearing therefore the speedo/odometer readings. If that were to be the case then the mpg as calculated could be significantly lower than the real numbers - if you see what I mean.

On another thread someone was running big tyres and the effect was they were registering nearly 12% less miles than they have actually covered. Which, if I understand it right, would mean an increase of about 15% on the actual mpg.

These were mine..

hello,
235/70/16, all standard- well apart from egr and fan binned and clean filters etc...
mine showed just as the pictures show, there is slight vary in the clock and what the sat nav says

You talkin to me.........punk?

Out walkin the dogs an a big bolt of lightning missed me by about a foot, I got 4 punktoors on me landie. I tried to open a can of corn beef an the key broke, went for a shower and the electricity went off, the key broke in the bedroom door, an the hole in the wall gobbled my card.

Stop, stop, I apolugize.

On the other hand perhaps it's a cohincadunc an your one of these preachur guys wif a gun, a klunt eestwud.

Hey James,don't sell the Disco.The only thing keeping me going is knowing your having more trouble with yours than I am with mine!

Its going really well at the moment. Just done a 1000 mile round trip and nearly didnt have to do anything on the way. Puddle of oil noticed at the services and had to tighten oil cooler hose up thats all. Fuel economy could be better but hey its a big motor that looks like a brick! None of the mods that folk spout about on here seem to give any noticeable improvement so short of putting hyclones on just for a laugh I don't know what else to do. Still way short of the manufacturers claims of 43mpg. I no longer own a boat and don't do much off road so cant really justify keeping it.

Well at least you enjoyed it while you had it.You have to take the rough with the smooth.These cars do tend to take over your life a bit ,you soon find yourself turning into that kid in the film "Christine".Hope you get what you want for it.Someones gonna get a bargian.Good luck.

Here's the latest results from the French Jury:

'98 DiscoTdi 300 auto:

60mph = 2100rpm

2000rpm = 56mph

These figures are based on running with torque converter locked up.

De-EGR'd

Tyres: 205/80/16 (the car rides better with these and they were cheaper too!!)

Right , got the landy up and runnin today replaced all cooling hoses,turbo hoses got rid of egr branch pipe put straight pipe through,cleaned intercooler replaced alternator with 100 amp (had to swap old pulley on to new alternator new one was to small.Big improvement pulls nice now ,went up biggest hill (werneth low) didn't stuggle like before and stayed in higher gear.Went on motorway 60 mph 2000 revs 65mph 2250 revs.Thinking of heading into the Peak district tommorow towing 1200 kg caravan .Lots of hills so I will let you know how it coped.

That sounds brilliant Danny, you're really getting somewhere now, you must be very pleased.

I've done pretty much the same on my car, '98 Tdi300 auto, the next thing I'm doing is replacing the downpipe as it has a cat (meeooow) in it and I believe it might be a bit restricting.

Got rid of mine already.Get defender pipe its alot cheaper.

Yes Danny, Ive got a Defender one on order. I believe you made up your own new full exhaust didn't you? I'm just planning on replacing the downpipe and connecting it to the existing new std middle box/tail section.

I can't seem to find a picture of the Defender downpipe, I hope the std Disco system will go straight onto it?

I have the 57i kit as well as a slightly smaller filter cone which is only 65mm inside diameter instead of 70mm.
