Hi guys

I have my eye on a D2, but it's a good distance away from me so I got somebody local to look it over before I make a trip myself.

They report a judder at 50mph. Is this just a wheel balance problem or might it be something more serious/expensive?

Thanks as always.

my R reg 300 tdi had this, turned out to be bold tires with flat spots, so yeah could just be balance. but in all honesty if you aint seen it don't buy it unless you truly trust the person that's inspected it for you.
i was told it could be track rod ends loose, to much play or bushes waring out and the list goes on all of which can be as expensive as tires.

does it just judder or is there a violent sawing (left to right in steering)
so on. as i said and i think you'll find all over this site they say "Don't buy it you haven't seen it" or at least have a very deep wallet to through money at it once you got it. many of us go through a trail an error approach to fixing our landys which means we sometime replace things for new and it still wont fix your problem but at least you know that the part just changed is good for the next x years

Mine had this at approaching 60 and I was told wheel balance. In the end it was front propshaft UJ s and also the swivel bearings.

I spent £3000 for mine and have spent a further £1800 getting it right......but at least I know now what has been done and it shouldnt be too bad from here on in

Whatever you decide good luck, but do budget for repairs - they will be needed!!!!

Could be tyres, bearings, ball joints, propshaft UJ's or a number of other things, its hard to say without a proper inspection by someone who knows whatthey are doing. Can they get it into a local garage to check these things?

Actually could even be the engine fan - my specialist removed this to eliminate it when tracing the problem with mine!!!!

depends if it smoothes out after 50 or gets worse
mines doing exactly that ( but it gets worse the faster you go ) - I crushed the steering damper while laning & it lost all its fluid
Its like out of balance wheels on a whole other level lol
worth trying there if theres no play in your wheels - as they arent too dear !
amazing what them steering dampers do for a disco !
mines almost undriveable over 50 - it honestly feels like its going to shake itself appart

It could be loads of things, but the first I would check would be the propshaft U/j's and the rubber doughnut on the end of the reap propshaft.

i'll second the doughnut. mine was doing that last week, brand new doughnut was trashed due to alot of play on the input bearings in the rear diff
