Hi guys im new here although I have visited a few times mainly to read the fantastic tutorials on how to upgrade the freelander with the 04 bumpers (thanks muply!)
Okay so I wanna know what is so wrong with the freelander? I bought a 2001 1.8 ES model on Saturday with 73,000 miles on the clock and it is fantastic! Although my engine may get the HGF sometime becuase its the 1.8 its fine for now.

Great offroad
It looks brilliant (will look even better when I facelift it)
Drives superb (although slightly sluggish faily fast acceleration)
Superior interiour, loads of extras included like leather heated seats

But why are people saying it is the worst land rover built? It is the nicest looking land rover even built (apart from the range rover sport) the most stylish and practical, and I would much rather be seen in one than a defender.

Sorry about that rant but to me and many others it is the best land rover ever built apart from the range rover sport which it is close to! I HATE DEFENDERS! "GAYLANDERS" are much better!

Don't worry about it. The fact that you A: think the Gaylander is Cool and B: You bought a 1.8Kseries gaylander.

it's been a bit of an ongoing joke for yonks. each to their own, personally, I've got the van version, and think it's great, better than say an astravan, or transit.

sure, won't go everywhere a defender will go, but goes where I want it, kept me mobile (and therefore earning) through the snow, and gives a bit of a diversion if I want to go greenlaning.

when the time comes, gonna get me a disco for abusing, but the freelander's fine for what it does.

Dont knock it till you try one,they may not be much good in deep ruts,but on wet grass or snow/ice they take some beating - the TC is bloody good.

If you want a face lift buy a face lifted model, sure peeps have done it, but you'll never ever get your money back. When you go to sell it again, you'll get no more than the OE one.

Freelanders are excellent vehicles if you use them for what they were intended to be used for, they were never supposed to be "off-roaders" so they can't be compared to the defender in that respect. The diesels are excellent 4x4 compact SUVs.

MHM my freelander is almost 10 years old now and the build quality is very good, it feels solid and its never leaked inside and its never rusted. I really cannot find fault with it.
