Hello peeps :)

Will THIS e-baynes item do for my Landy?? Also, I found a Discovery 1 Finisher - Roof Gutter Side from Rimmer Bros and need to know if this is the long strip that goes along the side of the roof gutter.

If the Light cluster above does not fit which one from Rimmer Bros will fir then?

The VIN number they are talking about is found under the Wind screen where the dash is??

Cheers :D

Righto... Updates, been a while, I know :( I apologies for that :/
Anyways, here are some pics'n stuff! had to take the car to a shop for some serious work! (good thing is the shop are knowledgeable and I know them for years now and got good work done for good prices).

Had to do an "Engine out job" due to caps leaking :(

Good thing is I got to do the Clutch and clutch assembly for good measure and also reinforced the fork. (sadly I forgot to take pics of the reinforced part).

Also refurbed the steering box! (box is out in this pic, before engine came out.)

Also, changed the Brake Vacuum Pump because there was some oil in the return pipe to the drum. (had to replace it with a Britpart sadly but at least it's done :/

I removed the EGR Valve, car is running much better now after doing 2 tanks of fuel I can see a difference.

Right, leaving the post as is for now since I think I am spamming pics lol!

Will post more updates in a few.

Cheers guys.

It seems like you are doing a really proper job on this restoration - so well done.

If I may suggest, get yourself a De-cat exhaust downpipe - they run much better and cost peanuts from here:

ESR2297 | Front Pipe - 300TDI without flexi

I must have done perhaps 10 of these now and all of them ran better with better mpg. The pipe seems to last well too.

If you don't already know them, Paddocks are a good place to get your LR bits from and they deliver to Cyprus.

Has the MOT bit been sorted now then? Have been holding off on mine to see what happens.........

Aye, MOT is sorted and the good thing is the Mechanic's son is next door to him and does MOT and all the work done is 100% MOT proven before hand so no worries there thankfuly :D
Was talking to the Mechanic and he himself suggested the Exhaust and also to tweak the pump AFTER a few tanks of running since the EGR was removed and all sorts of gunk was sitting in there! If you look at the pic above with EGR removed you will see what I mean :p
BUT - I am happy as is tbh, all I want is slightly better mpg. I managed on a full tank to do over 400 Miles with city, mountain and rural driving :D but I KNOW it can do better!!!

All in all I am happy with one real quibble... ! Every time I turn the steering right ----> (at speeds not stopped) I get this strange wobble in the steering. I can only imagine it's the confounded steering damper; at least I HOPE it is since I got the steering Box refurbished! I repeat: it ONLY does it when turning Right ---->

Here's some Eye food for you hungry ppl :D
(some pics so you guys can get an idea of some of the places I can drive this baby, more to come)

Re the steering wheel wobble when turning right, did you refurb/change:

The swivel bearings
Panhard bushes
Track rod ends
Wheel bearings.

Yes.
Not sure.
Yes.
and those looked fine on inspection.

The wobble is not bearing related I think. Well, had that kind of issue before on other cars and this wobble (lol) feels different. But, I am actually going to make a point of checking these out further since there is obviously a problem and will only get worse :/

cheers :D

Long time no see :)
How is everybody keeping up?
Noticed you fellas having a really wet summer! Here it is BLOOMING hot :mad2:
Loving your threads and posts guys :)

Why would u want arb lockers if its your daily driver?

Well, can't I have a daily driver with Lockers on it? :D
Besides, I use my Disco for all my off-road endeavors and at times lockers would be a great addition.

To be totally honest I am still just curious about lockers and I am looking to see what options are out there. ;)

Cheers guys.

If it is your daily drive then one might wonder why lockers would be necessary. This is only a personal point of view, of course, but I would think that if you are using your vehicle for a lane that requires more than the centre diff then perhaps you should have considered that lane as off limits to start with, If you are using your vehicle for a RTV competition at the weekend, then I believe you would be excluded as a result of having the locker fitted (I belileve this is right but Jai_Landrover would know).

Having said all that then the only reason for actually having the locker would be if you are using the motor for trundling all around obscure countries!

Only my thoughts of course.

Am I right in thinking you are based in Cypress? If that is the case, do you get much deep mud there? I thought it would be too dry?

Imo you should only need a rear and or front locker if you are driving somewhere where there is likely to be a lack of traction, such as on mud snow or sand.

Normally speaking with a CDL and good tyres you can go pretty-much anywhere, if it's dry.

Cyprus would be correct ;) and you are also correct on the fact that most of it is "dry" off-roading but I can NOT sit my arse down you see:p

During winter months I do a lot of mountain trips where snow is a big factor.
Last winter we were actually stranded for an extra 24 hrs. due to snow. (If only I had my Disco ready by then :( ). My mates new L200 couldn't make it 20ft. Part of the Discos duties here would be Recovery since a lot of the outings during those periods are spent pulling other people's vehicles out of the snow.
We also do a lot of fishing trips where an 18ft. boat is part of the cargo :p and some of the trips are off the beaten path and much more...
We also go on several 4x4 "Safaris" where some of the trails are quite demanding; search on you tube, I believe that there are some good examples of videos.

.. I think I should get my Video Camera out and get some footage. You got to admit though that ARB Lockers would make the Disco a beast
We will see how much they are actually needed though..

Later.

Air lockers are great for that 'switch on grip' moment. Couldn't recommend them enough, although you won't use them all the time and often they won't help either, but when they do you'll be amazed/very chuffed.

cheers.
