Hello all,

I've made a start on removing my IRD today and have just ran out of time (got to go and collect the Mrs).

When I stopped, I only had the two bolts on top or the IRD nearest the gearbox to remove, these a proving to be a little fiddly.

Does anybody have any hints/tips on getting these out i.e. body position, specific tool or anything else. All advice welcome

I was following instructions on an old thread by Northern Irelander (IRD Removal from Oct 2008) and to be fair, I cant see what advantage removing the subframe would give me, the two remaining bolts would still awkward to get at.

awkward enough job, take your time, you'll be fine, the top two need reaching with socket sets and extension bars, throw some graphite penetrating fluid on them overnight.

It makes life easier if you remove the pinion (5 bolts)....... no need to remove subframe

believe me its much easier with the subframe removed. Good.luck

It's extra work, requiring additional support for the subframe and the main shell.

I believe you................ if I'm using a hydraulic car lift.

It was LZ member Clutchdust (LR mechanic) who claimed that he removed and installed an IRD in 2hrs..........Impressive when you have hydraulic lifts and air tools.

He opened an independent garage, so I asked him; if he would be charging for 2hrs labour to the customer and did this mean he would book in 4 IRD jobs into a working day,,,,, there was no comment
