Hi all,
I own a 2001 51 plate Td4 Manual freelander. My service is coming up and was wondering what oil i use for the ird/transfer box and the oil for the diff. It doesn't seem to have it in the haines manual.

Also been reading posts on here about replacing four tyres at a time, i have had to put one new tyre on the front due to a blow out, will this affect my ratio to the rear wheels, vcu etc??

Thanks for your time.

Here you go. From the rave disk:

Engine oil - Td4 engine
Use a 10W/40 or 15W/40 oil meeting both ACEA A3
and ACEA B3 specifications, and having a viscosity
band recommended for the temperature range of
your locality. Where oils to these Land Rover and
European specifications are not available, well
known brands of oils meeting API SH quality should
be used.

Engine oil - K1.8 engine
Use a 10W/40 oil meeting specification ACEA A2
and having a viscosity band recommended for the
temperature range of your locality. Alternatively, a
10W/40 engine oil meeting specification ACEA A1
can be used.

Engine oil - KV6 engine
Use a 10W/40 oil meeting specification ACEA A2
and having a viscosity band recommended for the
temperature range of your locality.

Gearbox oil
Use of gearbox oils other than those specified may
result in serious damage to the gearbox.

Manual Gearbox - PG1 and Getrag
Use Texaco MTF 94 oil or Burmah Oil MTF 1067 plus
OPEL B 0400063 for refill or topping-up.

Automatic Gearbox - JATCO
Use Texaco N402 fluid or equivalent for refill or
topping-up.
Note: You can top up your auto box oil. Just make sure you do it correctly. Instructions on this site if you search for it.

Intermediate Reduction Drive
Factory Fill: Texaco S5 75W90; Specification: API
GL5

Rear Differential
Factory Fill: Texaco Multigear 80W-90 ETL 7441;
Specification: API GL5

Gear linkage - Manual
Use grease Part No. AFU 1500 containing 3%
Molybdenum Disulphide.

General Greasing
Use Multipurpose Lithium Base Grease NLGI
consistency No. 2.

Bonnet latch
Lubricate cable and latch with oil.

Locks, Latches and Hinges
Use Door Lock and Latch Lubricant, Part No. CYL
100020.

And the service sheet. Right click on it and select "Save Picture As..." ta save it to yer phooter.

Had a simular issue re 1 new tyre. I put mine on the rear as it betterer. It will change the ratio slightly, but to a more helpful effect on the rear in this scenario.

Just had a look in rave. Tratters are a bit more difficult as the list is in a table. But someone could put up screen dumps of the tables so you can pick what you need. I could do if yous tratters boys is dumb.

It's in the rave disk \ tratter section \ workshop manwells \ select engine \ lubricants fluids and capacities

Advanced factors are saying FUCHS TITAN SINTOPOID 75W-90 for both IRD and TD4 manual gearbox. Does anyone think that this is a problem?

Link to oil http://www.fuchslubricants.com/titan-sintopoid-sae-75w-90

It is GL-5 fully synthetic 75W-90

One oil that can do both is an advantage because I am taking the car to "Gearbox Dave" on Thursday for a new clutch and clutch slave and same for both means he won't get them the wrong way round.

looks ok ,the rear diff and ird only need a decent gear oil, both are just gear teeth and bearings

I called Fuchs and they said sintofluid 75w80 in the gearbox. Currently I have 2 litres of sintofluid 75w80 and 2 litres of sintopoid 75w90 on their way from Advanced Factors so I hope it's right.

Correct spec oil is listed in a post above on this fred. Info came from the bible (rave disk).

According to this http://www.texacobaltic.eu/en/products/cars/mtf-94.html
"Recommended for use in a wide range of synchronised manual transmissions where a 75W-80W or 80W oil meeting API GL-4 performance level is required".
So MTF94 doesn't appear to be anything that special. Personally I am a great believer in synthetic oils and if I had more time to research it properly I would probably have put a Redline oil in there.
The problem with transmission oils is if a gearbox has copper or bronze components in it and you put an EP oil (which I think equates to a hypoid oil?) in them it can attack the bronze/copper. I don't want to make that mistake. I am guessing that this is why Fuchs said to put Sintofluid and not Sintopoid in the gearbox.

From here http://www.fuchslubricants.com/Content/downloads/20760_Gear Oils Brochure.pdf
"TITAN SINTOFLUID – for passenger car manual gearboxes, TITAN SINTOPOID – for passenger car differentials"

You are correct. Sintopoid for diffs and Sintofluid for gearboxes. However MTF94 is rumoured to contain a plastic protectant for the PG1 plastic caged bearings. Interestingly 10w40 engine oil is also suitable for topping up the PG1 box. If you have the TD4? Sintofluid is the stuff to use in the box. Sintopoid for the diffs.
