Hi

Why is one of my hubs leaking?

Attached are photoz: the first is the non oily one and the second is the oily one. I don't even know what type of hubs they are, to start looking for an exploded guide somewhere.

I noticed at the weekend that one of the hubs is splattering a little oil on the "chrome" wheels (I'll work on the chrome or the wheels after I've attended to the other 400 little jobs).

I got a bit of advice from you guys on the forum about breathers being blocked, but I haven't a clue where they are and what to do.

The manual CD thingy on the interweb I bought from ebay is hopeless, and so is my Haynes manual.

Can anyone help?

that looks like yer gasket is shot and it needs a new bit of cornflake packet fitted.
yer breather are on the top of yer axle, unless yer got extended ones, in which case the pipe will be attached to the top of yer axle and then disappear up somewhere high.

if yer just got standard ones they are probelly rusted up and in need of replacment

Depends how rusted in they are. Spray a load of penetrating oil/WD over them & let it work it's way in for a good while before attempting to undo them. If a spanner fails you might have to use mole grips as a last resort, but it will destroy them.

The thin paper gaskets are pennies if you've a local independant landy parts supplier.

Jeezus!!!

31p I have just paid for a new bit of corn flake packet. I intend to try and fit it tomorrow night to my incontinent free wheeling hub.

Thing is...I can't find anything that advises me how to do this.

If it's leaking oil, am I going to gush oil out when I loosen the bolts?

Help! How do I do it all?

PS Also check breather (thanks finally found that by the way), wee bit of rubber at the top seems fine, doesn't seem to fooked up, how would I know if that was causing the problem?

yer need to buy yer self a manwell even a heinzes is btter than wot yer got now.

yer breather take it all orf and make sure it int blocked any where either with crud of if yer have extended brevvers the tube might be kinked

Hi

Well tonight the breather was removed by spanner, gunked within an inch of it's life, and refitted.

The piece of cornflake packet was installed, and hopefully that's it sorted!

Cheers for the help guys.

Ken

thems look like superwinch hubs like i gots on me tratta watch out for them recessed bolts they like to round off and are a pig to get out when they do i am trying to source some for mine at the moment as one is fooked

I wondered what make they were. We had a little difficulty getting the torque bolts out(?) but once the mini hub bit was off getting the other six bolts were easier.

I see there's a set on ebay, but it's buy it now for £68.36!!!
