Hello all!

I have recently become the owner of a 1961 Series 2 Land Rover. (Well, that’s what the V5 says anyway :D . everything else points to series 3 but that’s another story)

It is currently fitted with free wheeling hubs however the front right switch is refusing to move. Is it a case of bashing with a wooden mallet to free it? Don’t want to hurt my new landy :)

So it seems it wasn’t completely stuck thankfully, I’ve oiled it up with some WD40 and hopefully it’ll become looser with more use, is there a way to test that they’re functioning? Wouldn’t want to get stuck down a lane thinking they’re working :D

good read above

you could jack up one front wheel in 4wd and see if wheel turns , it should only turn with the free wheel hubs turned off and when engaged will only rock a bit

Thanks for this! I realised that with both front wheels on the ground in 2wd, the front propshaft should spin by hand when they’re free and shouldn’t spin when they’re locked (had a bit of a panic for a second when I only locked one and it still spun forgetting how a differential works)

I believe they work so it’s time to go out and have a bit of fun tomorrow! (if this horrid weather changes at least)
