at the end of a ferry crossing, my RR unlocked OK with remote key but appears to be immobilised. Lights work engine wont turn over. I dont have an ECM code as I've just bought it. It's Sunday, The garages are closed, RAC man says immobilised but cant help. Is there a generic ECM I can use?
Any help appreciated.
I'm still here. Can anyone help? please!

Same thing happened to me and your stuck as the code is held by Land Rover and they will need to see your log book and proof of ID then they will print out a page with radio codes and key code. Sorry but thats it you will be without the car until you can get this info

Not yet. The code didnt work, so I.ve been recovered to a Land Rover main dealer. Their clock is running, but mine isnt (yey)

Hi The DSE that I just bought was a sold as seen with head gasket problems, front and rear end smash complete with flat battery, so had no idea until I got home what else might have been wrong with it. Any way once I had charged the battery up tried the key code and all that happened was that the alarm kept beeping with every turn of the key. I finaly traced the problem to the bonnet which has a micro-switch fitted to the drivers side (right hand drive) catch and the catch was not closing so telling the alarm that the bonnet was open. Once I had fixed this the key code worked. Hope this is of some help.

It's all sorted. The dealer reprogrammed the key and suddenly everything worked again (at a cost of £117). Thats about £400 per hour!.
 
There used to be a time in the “Old days” (ahh rickets TB and the black death) when you took your car in to a garage, and they diagnosed the problem, told you what was wrong with it and charged you only for the work done and parts, now you pay them for the privilege to detect what’s wrong so they can charge you to fix it, am i missing something here, or are we all getting ripped off?? and please don’t give me the old nut of, “ well all this equipment costs a lot of money” i know it dose, but so dose setting up a workshop getting the premises etc,etc, but they charge you for all that built in to the price, its a bloody rip off

so wot yu is saying is - the more incompetent they are - the more they can charge, coz it takes em longer to find a fauilt - or not?
 
No i didn't mean it that way, i just think if someone is sticking your car in to diagnostics, then its helpful to them, so they know what the problem is, it make them more professional in the job that they do, and they can diagnose the problem and fix it quicker, again more professional, its customer service, good will etc, what rubs me is i have to pay for them to know what is wrong with it, before you never had to do that, they diagnosed the problem told you what was wrong and told you what the labour and parts were and if you agreed, then you paid for the work to be done
