You've got a Disco and you're tempted by a Jap **** Shotgun, you must be mad.
It might have all 'the bells' but it'll have your balls and your wallet when the pretentious bloody thing goes wrong (and it will)
£4000 will buy you a lot of Land Rover these days, be a Brother and buy another.

Rob........only a Land Rover will do, what you want it to do.

Where will your (and my) children work? Another one keen to stab our industry in the back.

When your children are struggling to find a job in Blighty, I will tell them it was all your fault.

so - yu would rather buy an Indian vehicle would ya? Or possibly a german engined or Ford owned motor?

I Will keep the disco, she's just to good NOW to get rid off but £4k wont get a low miles Disco.
I have spent over £1950 on her this year with various things and thats me doing a lot of the work!!!
No the point i'm making is although the Jap cars may not go on forever they are pretty reliable and by god at the moment cheap!
Anyway day off today so 4 hours fixing the central locking/ lift pump(again)/ lights (again)/ and finding out why the heated screen didnt work this morning. I LOVE IT.

I think you've made the point perfectly CD, the Land Rovers (of which I have two and love them both) are not as reliable as japanese equivalents.

Having just got back from Morocco, where especially in the south, 4 wheel drives are everywhere, which makes are the most popular?: LR - no; Nissan - a bit more; Mitsubishi - a few more; Toyota Land Cruiser - everywhere, absolutely everywhere, outnumbers all the other by a factor of perhaps 50!!!!

And they are not all just the newest models, they were right through the age range dating back to early eigties models.

Just because it's not LR doesn't mean it's crap. Oh and the old argument of 58% of all Land Rovers ever made still being on the road? - they have been rebuilt, rechassis'd etc etc.

My advice would be, don't knock it 'til you've tried it - remember the Top Gear Toyota pickup truck??

The argument about buying British to support our employment is a valid one, but what is British nowadays??

Right, I'll just go and get the body armour and helmet.;)   :D

Cheers
Dave

So...

We're selling BA to Iberia
We're selling our national grid to EDF (France)
We're selling Jag & LR to India
We're selling our Banks (maybe)

...where will our children work?

Support those that invest in Britain while you can...maybe we'll outsource/offshore Parliament soon ...hmm..maybe that would HELP!

the shotgun is a reasonable motor - and I love Jap cars.. sorry...

but when it comes to value for money over the lifetime you cannot beat a discovery... and believe me I did the maths extensively before I bought one..

if you want the shoggy, buy it.. but don't come running to me when you are laying out over 2k to get the head gaskets done.. same as I would say to somone about buying a discovery, buy it if you like it but buy it knowing what you are buying.. go and spend a bit of time on the mitsu forums and see what they think of their stearlers or their japparts or whatever...

and yes, the shoggy is cheaper than a discovery, wonder why.. who has been driving it, how have they treated it, when was the last tiome they got oil on their hands just for the sake of making sure everything was OK????

I think they're still actually BUILT here aren't they? Not sure about the ford engines though. At least India's part of the Commonwealth!:D I can't think of any British-owned manufacturers now, except possibly Bristol. Even LDV is owned by a Russian...

Hove the Shoguns discovered permanent 4WD yet?
Drove a Land Cruiser once: yes they are great vehicles mechanically and ultra-reliable but it was a bit boring somehow.

1. Have the Shoguns discovered permanent 4WD yet?

1. Don't know, but why would they need to?? Surely 4-wheel-drive is only for situations where traction is difficult?? Not when going down the shops. Permanent 4 wheel drive seems like a waste of fuel to me?

2. Yeah I know what you mean - reliability is a real bore:cool:

But you could say that about any second-hand vehicle on the market??

Any modern vehicle that is looked after conscientiously (not just by the book) will last and give good service.

My old Series 3 used to slide all over the road when it rained. Give me permanent 4wd any day. :D

I agree.. but from my experience as a buyer jap cars tend not to induce the same passion in their owners meaning they get onl by the book / when funds allow type servicing unlike british (ish) cars that tend to get a lot more loving care..

So, that's not the cars fault then, that's the owners who are at fault surely??

Anyway, we are just going round in circles, we all must love LR's to be on this forum debating this never-ending saga:D :D
