Ok, so I'm a girlie, who's always been a bit of a petrolhead.

OH paid for me to do a 4x4 day at Castle Combe last year, and ever since I've been badgering him for a Disco to play with.

I now have beloved Disco, and nobody to play with. :(

Obviously it would be stupid of me to just go off on my own, so wondered how I start out with green laning. Are there any groups about that I could join to go out with? I know that I only have limited experience from my day out, but hope to gain so much more.

I'm near Warminster, Wiltshire.

Many thanks
Marie

Exactly my point, I know nothing of what I need to do to it before I get started.

Any advice welcomed and taken on board.

Ratty & Robint are down your way too. As Herts lot are coming down to Salisbury Plain W/E of the 6/7 Sept. Join us if you like.

Marie,
Firstly don't go out alone, secondly make sure you've got some decent recovery points on the Disco, Jate Rings are good either front and back or jate front, tow bar on back. Decent recovery rope/strap, shackles, shovel, spare wheel, jack, etc. OS Maps show Byways on them, plus Council website should have a list of what's open/closed. Make sure that what you're driving is legal. There's a tread on what to take with you, worth a look. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f13/before-you-go-greenlaning-53235.html

Aye. An if you go off for the day with any o these reprobates, don't forget to tell someone where yer going...!:D

Brilliant, thanks for the advice.

I'd love to join you, and have some fun in what my motor was built for.

I'll set about kitting it out a bit ready.

Mr Clarkson covered all these points last week on top gear, dunt need to bother wif gates just drive thoo the hedgus, smash and squish all the young trees, churn up as much grass as you can wif loads of wheel spins and exessive speeds way beyond the poosie 20mph norm. And frighten the **** out of everybody within a 10 mile radius.

And yel need a noo motor every time you go out, coz ee fooked that one, unless you fit full body armoor, to both the vehicul and yourself. An appointment wif an orthopaedic surgeon might also be a good idea.

Widg is lambourne based. Most of our lot head out that way or over to Wales. take a look at the North Somerset Land Rover Club (link in my sig) 1 trip a month every month with weekends away. tis a good crack. havent been out for a while though as im prep the new 90 for Morocco in Oct.

i aint far from lambourne so if anything going on out this way wouldnt mind latching on also need to learn me way around these things only been out on one pay and play 2nd one coming up this weekend if you lot dont mind of course

Marie, If you really want a good day or two out laning, come along to our weekend at Salisbury. We're all pretty domesticated and the only one that sometimes need to crap in the woods is my 6 year old (I hope).

There will be drivers of all standards there, total novices (including myself) to extremely capable competition off roaders. We're a fairly civilised bunch, and you'd be welcome to join us for the camping on the fri or saturday evening.

PM me if you would like to join us on 5th/6th sep and I'll send you all the details.

As for modding the disco... I have a completely standard V8 disco though I am looking at putting some Mud Terrains on it before the trip. Another of our happy lot will be driving a bog standard un modded disco, so nothing is cast in stone and you only drive what you feel happy with! (Jeez I feel like an advert!)

Cheers

Ryder
