High Low ratio lever stuck on my 300TDi

The high low ratio lever on my disco has got stuck in high, I last used it about 4 weeks ago. The diff lock got stuck about 18 months ago but that is no real problem as I very seldom use it. Can any body give me some advice on how to free it up??

Use it.
strip it, clean it and refit it - the mechanism that is.

I found mine appeared to have been cast in concrete - mud collects around it and solidifies. :(
