Because air bags are much better in almost every way. They give a smoother ride, less road noise and you can select the height - raising with the dash button (or when the car detects you have grounded) and lowering with the optional remote. The only downside is that it is another system to keep an eye on, and they do fail which is very rare with springs.

If there was an easy conversion, I'd put them on the front too.

Sorry Dave, decided to go with the spring option.

Few pals helped me whip out the airbags (looked in good condition actually).

When I say helped it was more like they done it while I ordered the pizza and made changes to my friends fantasy football team! Anyway £40 worth of pizza later the job was done, it now drives great and just waiting to see how she tows.
il be booking it in to get the warning lights sorted in the next week or so.

Next up, service and Egr blanking.....

I've thought about this a few times.

Wouldn't be too difficult to fit P38 front bags, you'd have to sort a different shock mount though.

I'd tell the SLABS it's on springs and then go with aftermarket management. That's the expensive part.

its a lot of effort for what is such a basic system which only benefit is adjustable height, the ride is more wallowy on rougher roads , i think like guages its the idea of tech that appeals

I would too.

Wouldn't be too much work IMO just expensive. Plenty of aftermarket air ride systems that could be fitted. If anything, it's easier than converting a normal car to air as the rear end is already done.

Depends how much you would want the extra height adjustment. My Disco is lifted and I have young kids and a short wife, I'd love an access mode like the P38 and later Discos have.

i have put two links up on post #25 for air ride systems.

I find the SLS so usefull as I occasionally load the car up with heavy stuff, had air adjustable shocks on the last car

I've always said if you carry heavy loads, or tow a lot, rear SLS is very handy. If you don't however (like me) it's just a money pit for no advantage.

The benefit is completely relative to the user, hence we see such debates all the time.
