The one who bids the highest amount.

All it does is stop a bidding war by bidding at the last possible moment.

You put your bid in, and anyone you've outbid doesn't get the chance to up their bid because the auction has ended.

It does mean you have to bid the most you're prepared to pay (plus 78p) though, because if you're outbid, you've got no time to change your bid either!

So that's exactly the same as putting a high bid in with EBay but you pay 78p extra

Not necessarily the same, if it were the same, the auction sniping thing wouldn't be as huge as it is.

If you bid more than anyone else, you're always going to get it, but why let other people put the price up bidding in small amounts against you.

If you put a high bid on an item on day one (say £100) and I keep bidding against you during the week in small amounts up to £75, you'd win, but you'll pay £76.

Now, if I bid on the same item, and was the highest bidder at £14 (with a few days to go) I'd leave it there thinking I was probably going to win. I might have my maximum bid at £28 but was still hoping to get the item for £14.

If you then bid your £100 at the last minute you get the same thing for £29. You've outbid me, but I don't have time to react pushing the price you'll pay up.

This is the way most eBay auctions play out, it all happens in the last 5 secs. People think being the highest bidder is important, they keep bidding small amount until they're just a pound or two over the highest bid. If you can't be at your computer to snipe it yourself, then Auction Sniper is a nice way to save yourself some cash.

Hopefully we will get back on track with the HVAC mod now that Auction sniper is fully explained ? :crazy:

Useful, all my old contacts have disappeared. I'm looking at doing a replacement for the P38 driver pack when I have time.

Try copying that £5 RF receiver unit. Last one I saw was going for £180! So glad I replaced that when I did.

There was a comment further back about the EAS not being fully independent? Is that correct?

Dead easy to copy the RF receiver except you cannot buy the coded chip it uses, I've looked at it. With more investigation, it may be possible to create an alternative, I just do not have the time at the moment.

I've managed to design/build a replacement driver pack for the EAS. It's been in my P38 for the last couple of weeks for testing (to make sure it actually works in the vehicle whilst driving, not just on the bench!!).

I just need to look at getting a prototype PCB made up so it will all fit in a case about the same size as the original LR one! It's on the 'to do' list at some point.

Cost for me just building it on the prototyping waffle board where you have to join the dots, came in about 2/3 the price of a new driver pack.

RF unit... that would be a winner, though I am also looking into viable alternatives with using an old model RF receiver and a P38 key FOB, that is all hard-wired together and then triggered by an aftermarket fob, which isn't affected like the P38 receivers are.

However, I'm like Datatek... don't have the time at the moment. (maybe the next job I go away on I'll take a load of P38 bits to work on whilst the show is on!)

I think any body who can replace any of the electrical / computer bits on a P38 with a up to date alternative would do very well out of it!
