Hesitating Freelander 1.8

I'm really not interested in calling names or proving pointless "points", but I fail to understand why you continue to keep suggesting a Maf issue when Simon has very politely pointed out his car is not fitted with one,and then I dived in and suggested it uses a Map sensor instead.

I said air flow meter, having look it's using manifold pressure and IAT sensor-which is my mistake.
Either way carry on

Rather than arguing about the lovely K series (which has a timing BELT)

Lets get a bit more info about the actual problem. How does it sound when it's running? Does it sound like one of the cylinders aren't firing properly? Running like a lawnmower?

VERY possible it's something as simple as plugs. Have you driven through any big puddles recently?

Also version of autodata 2004 I have doesn't have test values for 1.8 k series
IS the ignition system in good condition.

If my full attention on this is lacking it's because I'm looking through a wheelabrator wiring diagram for tomorrow and at £450,000 thou shall not **** up.

either way would be good to find test values for sensors and check all ignition system components are good condition

Look it was a joke ! Bit like sending the apprentice off to find a metric adjustable or an inlet valve for a BSA Bantam.:p

we had a young lad turn up in Halfrauds last week asking for a set of sky hooks - he werent best pleased when we ****ed ourselves laughing - he had just driven 8 miles to buy a pack for his boss :D:D:D:rolleyes:

I thought that sorta thing died out with apprenticeships.

I reckon
1)check ignition components are serviceable
2)If you can find component test values in manual-check them
3)cylinder loss test/compression test
4)wants live data-see what is really happening

It's running absolutely fine except for the hesitation every now and then, as i said if i'm on the motorway or staying at a constant speed it's fine. New plugs (NGK Laser Platinum), distributer cap, HT leads, air filter and oil and filter change done about 2 weeks ago, didn't help. The wife had a 95 MGF which blew a gasket and i had a cavalier which also blew a gasket and i think hand on heart it hasn't blown. All cylinders seem to be firing well, all spark plugs are the usual light brown. Still a bit confused on the sensor issue.

You didnt mention changing the rotor arm.You could do a quick resistance check on it,there should be not more than 1 k ohm of resistance across the top of it.New, they are 8-900 ohms and they seem to degrade with use. They will eventually cause a constant misfire and even a total stop.

Sorry, yeh i changed the arm when i changed the cap, still think its a sensor somewhere but which one

I think you are going to have to wait for it to go on Testbook,if that shows nothing,(Which with a fault like yours it often wont show up.)You need to hope they have an oscilliscope and the interest to use it.

Well, it's gone, the freelander had a blown head gasket, wasn't worth the money to fix it. Live and learn!
