Help locked out of car -discovery 2

Tried key fob to open the car. Battery on fob ok however it's not unlocking, tried key in drivers door (the only key lock is on this side) lock just spinning. I think that it's an electrical fault due to a leak or a flat battery. Need to pop bonnet to check fuses/battery however, no access into the car!!!!! Does anyone know of a way of accessing fail safes in order to release the lock to open the doors? Many thanks.

I seriously doubt, and hope, that noone says .. No-one knows you, so why should they post in an open forum how to break into any Discovery in any street?

It's actually reasonably easy .. even for numpties.

i thought i said - apply power via starter motor contacts.

if lock spinning its due to anti theft system, f**k f**k can't remember how you over come it.Ther is a system on cars that stops the screwdriver attack. Just lets barrel spin ther is a way of stopping it but can't remember but the voddie might be causing that

Evening all. Seems like I have a common fault. I cannot get into my Discovery 52 plate. Key fob not working, changed the battery, door lock not working and it is the only exterior lock. Can't get in to the engine bay either.

Is there an option other than locksmith or recovery service?

Might the Disco battery be flat?

Sorry to reignite this thread - but I could do with help on this one. An old neighbour is locked out of his Disco 2 in exactly the way described. The key turns 180 in the lock but without response. WE HAVE THE KEY - so not trying to break in! (Trust me, I'm a vicar! No, really) Just trying to help out my neighbour(yes I work in a prison!!) Sorry for being such a noob... And for apologising so much.
Incidentally, mine's a 1998 TD5 Defender

Is the vehicle battery flat or fob broken?

The rod on the back of the lock is broken.

As far as I am aware it's just a flat battery through lack of use after he got a new car (unless he's REALLY unlucky and something else has gone at the same time!)

In which case the easiest option is to hook the jump leads up to the starter motor to get some power into the battery and then unlock it with the fob.

Alternatively call out a breakdown club and get them do this or slim jim the door. You/He will need to tell them about the rod being off on the back of the lock mechanism.

Thanks for the heads up on the lock issue, Ratty - I wonder if it's been like that a while & he's never noticed it because the fob was working OK?
No access to the starter motor of course (unless there's something I don't know here?) If we could get into the engine bay it would've been easy all along - we could've recharged the battery and then the key fob would unlock the doors again & we'd be back in business. Guess it'll have to be a mechanic call-out (...or maybe I could take a "slim jim the door" tutorial from one of the guys I work with at the prison!)

Can you reach underneath the engine bay to the starter motor terminals?

Yes as long as you take the under tray off first (if fitted).
