Hi,
New to this site and new to Freelander's!!! We have recently bought a 2000 'W' 1.8 Millenium edition 5 door.
We have noticed that when changing gear, unless we're very carefull releasing the clutch there is what can only be discribed as a loud clunk that comes from the rear of the car!! Only happens when changing gear, up or down!! Any idea's please!!
thanks Si&Dawn.

Welcome to Looneyzone folks.

ere we go agin :(

rear diff - front mount.
chassis cracked.
rear subframe mount broken.

1.8 eh? Goood luck .

Its the diff mount.

Cracked chassis makes a loud click when reversing on lock, then clicks again when pulling off in 1st

Rear subframe mount broke?????? never heard of this one

Its the diff mount.

I concur. The front/centre diff mount has perished, causing the transmission to flex and the propshaft/rear diff thumps into the floor of the car.

Possibly could be the VCU bearings, if they perish they can make a thump under the car.

Loads of threads on this - do a search for "rear diff"
