What ho.
My Disco 1 carries a fair of weight most of the time, if not the landscaping and gardening tools (cement mixers, bags of sand etc.) I use then its full of kids, tents and with two 14 ft canoes on the roof. In fact its doing just what Discos are designed to do.
My rear suspension has just started to hit the bump stops when going over sleeping policemen etc. So now is the time to up date the front and rear suspension as I have no idea how old it all is.
My questions: Is it worth going over to heavy duty or should I stick with the standard Land Rover suspension set up? If I go heavy duty which kit/set up should I go for? I don't want to lift the vehicle as I like the original ride height and look of the Disco.
Ta for your thoughts Andy

I had a set of Yellow (probably Britpart) standard height HD springs. When empty they 'lifted' the Disco 40mm. In reality they didn't, but they didn't sag like standard springs. When loaded and towing it sat level and solid, lovely to drive.

Off-road and loaded it was reasonable, driving anywhere empty it was a rattlebox .. over-sprung and 'bouncy'. As a compromise it worked well, I just left loads of stuff in it to keep weight up! Didn't affect fuel consumption one iota! ;)

Still got them spare, if TC hasn't used them, open to offers!

Police spec rear springs are good i had a set on my 98 auto great for carrying weight with, once i had 20 x 15kg bags of dog food in the back and looking at the car from the side the car was level and only dropped down by 1" :)

Yes, I did on the RRC and now I'll put the police springs en the "new" Disco. They fit perfectly and are a bit more hard that the original ones perfet for that extra weight you say.

"police spec" springs is a term used for replacement rear RRC springs, there's no such thing for the disco, they are just called heavy duty HD although they could have the similar poundage as the RRC ones but it also had self leveling.

The standard D1 springs are hard when it left the factory.

I'd go standard fronts and heavy duty rears, had that set up on my 110 and it was perfect for towing (see avitar) and sat lovely with weight in it or on the tow bar.

Your point must be Paddocks call springs Police spec in their discription.

The correct discription is HD ANR4491 - REAR SPRING HEAVY DUTY DISCOVERY UPTO 98 - Discovery 1 Parts

I suggest.... u have a look in your LR RRC and then in your LR disco parts catologues and come back and tell us which one the Police spec discription is in.
you wont find any britpart ****e in a lr rrc catologues they are a very similar poundage as the original rrc police spec springs, therefor they are the same spec as these making them police spec lol.just like if you fit a flashing blue light that would be police spec too
