Hi. Been having a suspension fault coming up for a while now on my Disco 4 which I know is a faulty compressor. Maybe a daft question but I’ve not been too bothered as don’t use high or low setting (only normal) which won’t work anyway but I’m now feeling my suspension very hard on small potholes etc….does the compressor also inflate suspension from start up to give a more comfortable ride and if faulty am I basically driving it without air bags inflated??

Be kind please not an expert…..

If its banging then yes I would say it is on the bump stops.

Simple check is with engine running and doors closed, (keep window open just in case it tries to lock you out!) how much gap do you have between top of the tyre and the underside of the wheel arch flare?

Are the symbols flashing on the raise/lower switch?

If comp does not run, do not immediately assume the comp is dead, could be power supply issue.

If you have known about the fault, why have you not fixed it?

The compressor fills a tank (storage). Even if its on its way out it will try and put some air into storage.
The bags will take air to level the car when you start it. During driving, if you have a leak.
You can only get away with driving with a knackered compressor for a while, even if you don't change the heights.

If you are now finding it "lumpy bumpy" chances are you are on the stops and should really not be driven further than a reputable garage. :)

Thanks for this. Lights aren’t flashing just warning saying raised/lower height unavailable.

I’ll get it into the garage.

Thanks J. See above…not an expert hence question! Not repaired as I wasn’t needing it as not using raised heights etc but in a way you’re kind of answering my question…..that the compressor is needed just for every day running/suspension.

Trying to source appropriate compressor part for this car 2009/10 Discovery 4. Can anyone give me a part number please or correct compressor?

LR parts suggesting there’s two…one with curved one with square bracket but can’t tell me which one I have until compressor off?

Any help appreciated.

If you can get the cover off and take a pic, we could tell you.
They have used 2 pumps in the range and I would be guessing without a pic, Although I am not sure what year they changed, Plus a previous owner may have changed it so no way of knowing, sorry.

But I will ask @gstuart he will know what was fitted as original.

Are you DIYey? Cos they can be rebuilt for a lot less than a £500 compressor.

Thanks that’s really appreciated.

I’ll try and remove cover also and provide a pic. Would need to put it into garage I think it’s behind my ability and I’m also being told it needs to be coded etc.

Cheers

If it’s a straight swap, like for like no coding needed.

Normally D4 is the AMK compressor, D3 were different but as the older compressor became unavailable they all had to have the AMK unit.
You can get copy cheapies, but if you are keeping the car I would suggest getting the real thing.
LR are going to be the most expensive place to get the parts from.
