Hawkeye Total for FL1

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered already...I have looked.
Basically I need a Hawkeye Total for my 2000 LHD 2.0 D Freelander 1.
I've find 1 on a famous auction site but it says...
"Hawkeye Total Diagnostic Fault Code Reader Tool - BA5068 for Land Rover D2 TD5"
I've read that these units are unlocked to every LR, but keep coming across units that are labelled with a type of landrover.
Would someone kindly clarify that if I bought a unit advertised for the TD5 it would work on my FL1?

I've got one for my 2002 TD4.
It seems to work pretty much, e.g. for live data etc, but it wasn't able to identify a fault when I had my 3 amigos issue.
There's probably other stuff it can't do.
However, I'm pretty sure other people have said that theirs works ok, so maybe it's just my car...

I think the early Hawkeye units were for specific models of LR. The last unit that was sold did all models. The seller should be able to tell you what his unit can do as you need to scroll through the list of models on the later units as a first step.

Yep that's what mine is.
You need to select the communication protocol as well, which on mine is the last one in the list (typically).

Thanks for all the replies. I feel more confident in selecting one now.
I found 1 cheap for sale at a Dutch website, went to pay and thankfully my bank wouldn't allow the payment, I subsequently found out it was a scam website.
I found another for sale with a reputable UK company, ordered it and received an email saying they forgot to remove it from their website as they have none left.
I'm scouring the message boards and auction sites for one for sale. If anyone knows of an unwanted one in a garage somewhere, please do let me know.

See if they have the dongles with it as some of the computers in your Freelander will need the dongle adapters if you want to talk to them.

Thank you. If I'm not mistaken, the grey ba077 dongle will be needed to interface with part of the abs system.... I think

my iCarsoft i930 seems to read & clear most things on wife's 2005, but cannot change any settings. Not sure about 2000 model though.

Can't really see a ODB unit that doesn't work on the ABS as being any good - as that's a big part of what its used for.

Its the 2000 to 2002 cars that have problems with ABS diagnostics though because they have the Teves Mk20 ECU that wasn't used for very long.

When you select Freelander there should be 3 options Freelander 1997-2000, Freelander 2000-2002 and Freelander 2002-2006 (as well as engine obviously) corresponding to the Wabco, Teves Mk20 and Teves Mk25 ABS controllers. Some devices it appears only have Freelander 1997-2000 and Freelander 2000-2006, the later will try to connect to the Teves Mk25 ECU and can''t cos its not the right one on 2000-2002 cars.

If there’s anyone with older FL near Langley, Slough, I would be happy to try my icarsoft and CDP autocom diagnostic to see what works.

Might be useful info for others ??

Hi, the Foxwell NT530 covers all JLR's I use it on my 04 FL1 & my 01 D2 TD5 & it works fine (it also worked on my neighbours 09 XF Jag).
You can add, at a cost, up to 3 or 4 other manufactures if you need to.
It won't do auto VIN recognition on my LR's (too early) but does on the later stuff like the Jag.
Well worth a look.

I've currently got the mother in law's 2001 V6 here, being repaired before it goes up for sale.
I can put the I930 on it to see what it can read before it's gone. I'll try to do it later, if I remember. I'm not sure what ABS module it has, but it's in the middle of the hard to read years.

Change the Teves Mk20 to the Mk25? Interesting - be good if you could, but I doubt it as the ABS ECU talks to other ECUs and the comms would probably be different - but you never know!

Ah wait I seem to remember mine is combined with the ABS pump!
I may leave that until I have less stuff to do!

That would suggest my ECU is the Mk25 but I'm not sure it is.
I have a grey cable and it can't talk to the ABS ECU so that's a fair sign I guess.

There's 3 options. Even if you were able to change them over... the error isn't normally caused by the abs unit itself. It's typically one of the abs sensors or switches that fail. Like the pedal switches.

The years they quote may be model year and not calender year.

Actooly - you can't change the Mk20 for the Mk25 because the sensors in use are different - passive as opposed to summat else - and changing them would need the wheel bearings changed....

I'm not sure how you tell the 2 apart visually - but the car's VIN number should say what's on the vehicle. I'm not sure though what the VIN numbers are for the different specs.

SRB000201 = vin 2A000001 to 5A428027 (I assume it's TEVES MK25)
SRB500250 = vin 5A428028 onwards

Web says SRB500250 superceeds SRB000201. I guess this is the same TEVES MK25 but with a slight update?
