Think there are some threads on disco handbrake failures

If the cable inside has been pulled it should have release the handbrake, easiest thing is to cut the cables and you should hear them go bang and release, looks like you will be needing a new park brake module with cables and the drum removed inspected and possible replacement.

When you last used the handbrake did it make a screaching noose?

:hysterically_laughi& a expensive one at that, also glad I didn't cut the handbrake cables have you seen the price of them £500 :eek:

when you release it you may still not be laughing when it comes to resetting it

If the motor is jammed on, the cable inside of car is for the soul purpose of releasing the cables if this hasnt released them then the only other way is to cut the cables, if the cables have jammed the handbrake on you cant release the handbrake which in turns you cant release the drums to inspect only way ive found is to cut the cables. Then you will need a new module cables shoes discs etc it aint cheap it has probably failed due to no maintenance and adjustment ie why I asked if it made a screaching noise when applied thats the tell tale sign of miss adjusment. Once it has been fixed setting up the handbrake is a pain if you dont have sdd as you need to drive the module to mount mode and latching mode etc ive done a fair few at work now so have got it down to a fine art. (New module shoes cables discs etc done in 5.5hrs)

cheers matt1987 its been standing for a while discs look badly rusted,to add to it they are the big daddy drilled brembos with humungus callipers, ill cut the cables then make a strong coffee grab a chair for my m8 to sit down while I break him the news,so all in all you reckon 6 hrs & maybe £1500 will sort it ?

I'm all for electronics making modern cars cleaner, safer and better in all aspects.
Its this idea of electronic steering and electronic handbrakes that I don't get.
Adding electronics to these in my opinion is just about the worst idea yet.
What happened to the old-school ways of driving cars, when the feeling you got through the steering of your old ford on a rainy night was the difference between you getting home safe or ending up wrapped around a tree, or when you could pull on a proper handbrake to throw the back end around to impress the females at the school parking lot.

Anyway, I've been told that the hand brake on the LR3 is going to seize up on me one day, its just a matter of when and where that is going to happen.
I just hope and pray that day doesn't come anytime soon.

Jesus - bling, bling! Did you get a free 75 IQ drug dealer with that Sport?

Post for help in the Disco section - same handbrake setup AFAIK.
