Hi guys!

I am currently refurbishing my 1997 Defender 300 Tdi, and it seems that is has a trailer connection (the 7 pin type of connector that attaches to the trailer) that is hard-wired into the rear cable harness . As I intend to remove the hitch for the moment, I also need to remove this connector. Doing this would involve cutting the trailer connector cable... I would however prefer if it was "de-connectable" so I am looking for a good quality water proof-ish connector to insert on the trailer cable to make it removable and re-attachable when needed. Anyone know of any good such connectors? - need to accomodate 7 trailer wires, be fairly small and survive life under a Landy :)

If you are so desperate, use a choccy block that you can attach anywhere and after you have made your connections drown it with half a tub of vaseline!

I just cut the end off mine and zip tied it up out of the way (wrappd in electrical tape) when it came time to attach a hitch and tow I just re-wired a new connector onto it. If you try to use a quick connect system it will just get gunked full of road debris and mud then corrode. I would just snip it off until you really need to wire it back in again.

Sometimes the simplest of solutions are the best!

Absolutely, this might actually be the way to go. Cheap and reliable. Thanks for the approach, as I was firmly set on a quick-connect type of solution.
