gearbox which oil ???

Disco 300tdi manual i need to change the gearbox oil but not sure which oil to use, someone told me that it is atf but that doesn't sound right and do they have a filter in them?

You need mtf94 oil and you'll need to buy 3ltrs. There is no filter.

atf is fine also they do have filter but not one you can change or clean like lt77

i'm now even more confused.com lol
2 different opinions.

they were originally run on atf very sucessfully then mtf equally sucessfully ,the thing is to change either regulary annually i would if doing average mileage more often if more,its the contaminents in less than 3 litres of oil that shortens life whichever of the two you use, in the numerous ive rebuilt the difference between the oils isnt noticeable

cheers mate thanks, iv'e only had my disco a couple of months and done the normal things engine service including timing belt bits and bats now to move on to gearbox and diffs, thanks again. If i change it every year doing average miles would that suffice ?

yes and do transfer box and diffs at same time,if your draining dirty oil out its also got metal particles that are running through bearings gears etc what you want is to be draining oil out before that stage in my experience yearly seems good ,
