HI Guys I do not have a RR yet, but went to look at a C REG 1986 3.5 petrol with LPG,gearbox is manual not auto / it has a gas cert, longish mot, 5 ex tyres.
The body is verry good no rust apart from the back talegate being rusty at the botom and sides, no holes.
So if we sell our other vehacle, soon I will buy this RR.
On the test drive down a track and rd it ran extreemly well.
Being this is my first ever Range Rover please excuse my ignorance, if the Qs are a bit simple for you RR guys.
My Qs are

1 ) what do you think i will get mpg solo on A rds and Motorways
2) towing a 950kg caravan what mpg keeping it at legal mph.
3) will i lose mpg on gas
4 ) can i get leather seats for it, as it has clouth seats now.
5 ) is there any probs that i should be aware of, with this yr of RR.

1/ 20/25 with a light foot
2/ 15/25 depending on wind direction terrain etc.
3/ shouldn't do
4/ Yes about £100 to £150 on Ebay
5/ Do a search but the word your looking for is rust rust and more rust.

answer to 3 is you will loose about 10% power + ecomomy

Hi inanotts thanks for that, if i am towing the caravan would you surgest swiching to petrol on long hills ? or will i not have to and keep it on gas.

ive just driven from notts down to northants and back (160 miles)

in my 4.0 PETROL 2000 P38

steady run doing 55-70 on the way down averaged 26 MPG

between 60-75 on way back 25 mpg

well impressed - was only getting 27-28 MPG on my 2,5 DIESEL cherokee

thanks coz that is good so i hope i sell my camper soon so i can go buy this RR, As my RR is 3.5 so you think that there will be much or any dif in mpg to yours ?
Gwil

errrr Im not sure - not owned many solihull motors

Only comment i would make is - is yours a 3.5 with carbs or EFI (dont know when it came in)

I would expect a few MPG more with EFI than carbs - especially if they need setting up correctly - just a general thought

Im V pleased with 25-26 to gallon - if i have it Gassed i'll prob get an equivalent of 40+ MPG on a run

Thanks Coz, jest looked at info of the RR it is EFI, so better mpg then and no carb seting probs great, both my wife and i are thinking of all the things we can do to this RR to do it up cool lol.
And I think it is a classic car so before and after picks, and a few shows.
And I would like to try some of the antics you guys get up to in your RRs.
Green lanes excetra.

On my P38 DSE on 8 mile commute to work A & B roads and normal weekend driving 26.8mpg

On run through several towns, A roads and dual carriageways 134mile run Lincolnshire to Stoke 30.8, in 2hr45mins at speeds from crawl to speeds not mentioned in public.

Just done it for 4th week and same mpg each way similar times too.

Thanks pogmanhog, that is good for such any 4x4.
trying to sell my camper now on ebay to get dosh for RR

i have only had my RR DHSE for 2 days now, i have done 132 miles most of which have been through heavy town traffic and the computer is saying 24 mpg, im well happy with that. they day i got it i ran the tank down as low as i was happy with, i stuck in £30 of diesel in and i have already done 132 miles and the computer is telling me i have enoguh to do another 146. i wish i had got one sooner. oh and by the way mine has been superchiped!

Interesting...what chip you got and any idea who fitted it?My 96 DSE doing 20.8 with the mrs driving it,i only get to play with it at weekends (the rangie, not the mrs)I would like to get 24 mpg out of it and it may stop the mutterings of "getting something cheaper to run" aswell ;)
