Blimey think yourself lucky

I am currently running a 4.6 HSe and averaging 10.9miles to the gallon around town, but i can get 20ish on a run.

Cheers Nick

I thought i had a problem with mine too as i had heard of people getting upto 32 mpg and avg of 28 mpg but i only get the same as you (21.8) so i dont think everyone gets good mpg in diesels remember it weighs about 2.5 tonne and like many people say the bmw engine is very under powered in the p38.

that sounds bad - might as well run a V8

my 4.0 is doing 19mpg ave on last 2 tanks - mix of running around local and a short run

got av 24mpg on a run last week

Funny, that's what I was thinking too !
Fancy having to put up with a slow, noisy, smelly old tractor engine for nowt ! :D

Seriously though - surely consumption should be a wee bit better than that ?

i dunno but would expect top side of 25 mpg at least

not to mention that diesel is more per litre as well

Im going to get mine gassed in spring

I had a 3.9 300 disco on gas and only got 12 to the gal and that wos after i put a new gas system on it got fedup of going back trying to get it sorted and hated the load of crap that it wos would'nt have another V8

Well 12 mpg on gas is still a lot cheaper £ for £ to run than your diesel Rangie
12 mpg is still a bit on the high side - perhaps you need to adapt your driving style if you can't get better fuel consumption ?
Another big issue will be the length of journey - stop/start motoring is not economical, neither is motorway thrashs

Or buy a Nissan Micra if it's that big an issue to you :D

I totally with you kenny ive got to take off the lead boot and put them slippers on. but the rangie i love the disco i hated the thing. And the BOSS would'nt get in it she hated it that much now i get no grief of the boss and that better for the health if you no wot i mean

Know exactly what you mean Alan ! - SWMBO is ALWAYS right ;)
Funny - I have owned every model Land Rover has made from the series lla up to the P38 and the only two I couldn't get along with were a V8 200 series Disco and a TD5 Disco
Don't ask me why I don't like Discos - I just don't and can't put my finger on why ?

i recon you must have had a bunch of idiots fit a duff system, i have a 4.6 and it cost me £28 for 200 miles, thats got to be better than 12mpg!

My (Dec 01) DHSE has a SUPERCHIP fitted (which just been reprogrammed)K&N air filter & a new MAF,
Avg 24 round town 30 on a run
I drive hard & the car is very responsive for a 2 ton plus glorified milk float!!
Very happy with performance & consumption having changed from and compared to a Mercedes Kompressor

Hi All, My bro has a 2.5DSE and he can only get 20mpg out of it. It is a slug to drive and you have to get the revs up high to get anything out of it. But my 4.0 V8 gives me 18 on short runs and 24mpg on a nice long run. I do keep telling him run a V8 there much better. At least when you put your foot down it shifts, rather than makes a lot of noise and well thats about it.

i get between 24 and 28mpg on my 2001 DHSE. i had hoped for a little better. thinking of getting it chipped too but not sure which chip to buy
