Fuel Leak above fuel tank common fault

Took our Disco 2 TDi out to do some shopping and noticed fuel leaking from the tank. Having looked into it I have been told that this is a common fault as the fuel lines chaff the chassis. I have ordered a new line at the cost of £56 but have also been told by K motors Leyland that it is usually the green line that chaffs and Land Rover are doing a seperate green line at about £10.
I am going to try and change this myself but am new to working on modern cars been too used to working on my cortinas lol but just wondering if anybody near the Fleetwood area can offer a helping hand just to make sure I do it right as I can imagine these toys are expensive if you get things wrong? I will pay for your time if you offer to help

anybody offer any help then, I managed to get the tank bracket off but the blooming tow bar bolts are in the way and no way of getting them off, any help appreciated

My wife's Tdi200 had a similar-sounding problem, after I put in a new boot floor.

Turned out to be the metal union pipes that are attached to the fuel tank sender unit.

I got access to the source of this problem via the circular panel in the boot floor. What I had to do was replace the in-tank sender unit with a new one without rusty pipes !! Before installation the new pipes were enamel painted to try and protect them.

Cost of job from memory was about £50 for parts plus only about 1 hour of my time.

in the end took it to a garage ut they replaced the pipes but now it wont start, he said it was a bit too advanced for him to rectify so it cost me £70 for him to put pipes on and my land wont go. Had to get RAC out to tow me home RAC bloke spot on he tried everything to get her going but to no avail. Got her home and he took the fuel filter off behind the back wheel and there was no fuel there, nothing coing through even when you turn the engine over no fuel coming from tank to filter, any ideas folks?
 
When you turn the ignition on do you hear the pump in the tank spinning up?

If not then he's probably forgotten to reconnect the electrics or something stupid.

You might want to try to do a forced air purge on the system.

1. Shut off

2. Wait 15 seconds

3. Turn key to position 2 (contact)

4. Wait 30 seconds

5. Shut off for 5 seconds

Repeat this 4-5 times so the air gets purged out.

or

Deck the throttle and turn the ignition on, keep it decked and you will hear lots of whizzing and pump noises.
 
yes tried all of that even to what it states in the book switch off wait 15 seconds then turn to stage II for 30 seconds and repeat six times but nothing. Garage states he has put one pipe on at a time and to the colours as they are colour coded but there is no fuel getting to the Filter behind the rear drivers side wheel
 
I would try taking pipes off at the filter and try turning the ignition on. He may have been careful but then again stranger things have happened - they might be the wrong way.
 
Well put about 20 litres of Diesel in her and still no joy, rang the garage back up he said he'd come round and tow it back to his garage, so he turned up in a small Peugoet Partner Van and a rope, lol I told him to put my proper towing bar on it as I dont fancy running into the back of him with my landy cos I have no servo lol, so put the bar on put gtransfer box into neutral and away we went.
We took the tank off and after taking a print out of the fuel sysytem it was shown he had put a pipe on the wrong way around, so switched it around and turned ignition on pump in tank started makeing funny whinning noises for about 30 seconds but this time you could feel the fuel being pumped into the filter behind the rear wheel and you could hear the fuel being pushed up to the engine bay but she would not fire and eventually run the battery down.
Its still at the garage now with the battery on trickle charge till Tuesday, my only hope is that it is not the fuel pump in the tank because I fear I may have done some damege when pushing the pipe in to syphon the tank. ANy ideas if you can tell if the fuel pump is on its way out as its £180 for a new one, although saying that she run fine after I syphoned the fuel out and put fuel back in when I couldnt get the tank off, if the pump had been damaged then she would not have run to get me to the garage in the first place, although when I first fired her up to take her to the garage it did cut out but then started ok on the second attempt.
