Evening all, trying stop an oil leak, had a garage look at it and was told that the fuel primer was leaking and that if I source and order said fuel primer they would fit for me. This may not be the only leak but at least working from the top down it seemed to make sense.
Can’t really find fuel primer in a search engine , can anyone tell me if this comes under another name or is part of the fuel pump as a whole.
As ever, many thanks in advance to my learned friends out there.
Steve.

As @dag019 said it won't be the lift pump itself.
Can you take some pictures ?

When you say 'oil leak' how much oil ?
Get some 'Gunk' and a spray bottle.
If you have a local wash station, take the car there, lift the bonnet and spray all the engine with gunk all over.
Turn on the 'foam wash program' and then pressure wash the engine (just avaoid directly pointing the pressure washer into the back of the alternator).
Wash the underside and the back of the engine too.
Drive home, look for the leak.

But if it is the lift pump leaking it would be diesel not oil. And if oil is leaking from it it would be the join with the block so need a new gasket not a whole pump.
I’m sorry I’m a bit vague, there is a diesel leak coming from the fuel primer, is that a part on its own or is it a case of a gasket replacement, if so could you name the gasket that I would need to order., please.

Well that may well be true but the OP asked what a fuel primer was. Besides by the time diesel runs down the block it can look like oil.
But your right if it is only oil then new gaskets are the way to go, only a few pence and easy to change.

The lift pump looks like this ....

It sits just below the air filter housing on the same side of the engine as the Fuel injector Pump (FiP).
The gasket (see above) cost about £1 and stops oil leaking out the side of the block where the lift pump fits.

These pumps and their gasket can leak but it is not a common thing.
You need to thoroughly clean all around the engine and then you will see the leak.

Never had a gasket leak oil but had a few lift pumps leak diesel out the bottom of them.

I agree, I have never had one leak oil, but it should be very easy to tell the difference between an oil and diesel leak even if they both look black by the time they get to the bottom of the engine by the smell, texture (and taste if you want to go that far).

^^ this is what OP needs to do so you can actually see where the leak is coming form and once everything is clean you will be able to see the colour of the fluid coming out as well.
