Hello all,

Having problems with my freelander, when you come to a juction etc, it's revving away on it's own about 1500rpm then it will rev up and down to about 3000rpm and whilst that is happening the mil light will come on and off.
It's very intermittant and hard to get it to play up to investigate, cleaned all earths, checked and cleaned multiplugs to pump etc all to no avail, been wiggling all connectors and the harness to get it to play up but it will not! Is there any common probs with these l series, do pump actuators inside pump ever play up?? will check sensor wiring when i get a diagram, cheers for looking

Don't know about L-series but I remember some older diesel engines apparently were prone to this when air bubbles got into the fuel system usually when the fuel filter was changed & the new one didn't seal properly or when the old manual pump primer/bleeder units started to fail, or even some leaky pipes to the fuel pump let air in. Probably not the case for you but worth having a look around to see if you've got any slight diesel leaks.

Its possible the crank sensor is failing so the engine ecu is defaulting to the signal from the needle lift sensor on number 2 injector,(Not lookied under the bonnet of an L series FL - it could be 1,3or 4) it holds the speed up as the signal is less accurate than the crank signal and disappears on overrun normally as no injection takes place.A quick session on Testbook should show up a code and be backed up on a live data display - at a steady speed both sensors should read the same.

Thanks Guys for your help, will try out all the suggestions, can you get up live data and pump data on the L-series FL, i tried with afew friends scanners but they will only give me trouble codes and not live data, have not tried testbook..
cheers.
