Hi

Hope someone can help.

I have a 1999 Freelander 1 L Series Diesel with the earlier Rover engine.

It’s comming up to the 80,000 Miles mark so still low for its age, does it have a cam belt that needs changing ? If so what mileage would you recommend it to be changed.

I had a quick look for kits but I could only seem to find it for the non rover engines ?

Any help would be much appreciated Thankyou 👍🏼

you could try asking here ..

" After some time in 2001 it's 48,000 or 4 years, when the L series cars moved from an automatic fuel belt tensioner with a 72,000 interval to manual tensioner with the lesser interval. "

It definitely has a cam belt that needs changing.

Not sure what the intervals are, but if its never been done, its way overdue.

I've had mine 12 years and replaced it twice.

Off the top of my head there's a belt and tensioner needs replacing.

However, you also need to change the injection pump belt - I don't think that has a tensioner to replace.

You also need to change the drive (fan/aux) belt and its tensioner. Although this does not sound as important, it very much is. It needs the belt and tensioner replace. This tensioner is the most expensive part of the process, but also the part that kills most L Series engines (it throws the drive belt that wraps itself round the main pulley and throws the cam belt).

Be careful when ordering the cam belt, there were 2 used in Freelander. IIRC there were 112 tooth and 114 tooth belts. Very early cars had 1 type, most had the other.

Most I'd let the belts go is 10 years or 100,000 miles - but its probably a lot lower than that, it will say in Rave...

DMGRS normally know what they are talking about and that does sound like the correct belt...

If you are unsure, give then a call.

It does not include the drive/fan/aux belt and it tensioner, and as I say, its important to replace that as well.

1 correction from my post above, I recon on a belt change every 100,000 km not miles!
