Hi,

First of all hello to all, nice forum you have here :)

I have just purchased a 99 Freelander 1.8 K Series having lost my company car.

Having been looking around the existing threads on here & elsewhere i am pretty sure i know part of the fault but the other is baffling me....

I have the T/C, HDC & ABS lights (three amigos :D ) all lit on warning constantly - so from what i have read this would be more than likely the 'brake pedal switch' (the speedo is fine so im assuming that rules out the wheel sensor?)

The issue is that when i put the vehicle into reverse i get a high pitched beeping noise constantly - are the problems linked? i have not seen anything to suggest so but this has just completely thrown me.

Going back to the 'brake pedal switch', where is the best place to purchase? Rimmer Bros? I have had a look at Rimmers but don't seem to be able to find the part, a link by a kind soul would be much appreciated

Any help on any of the above would be fantastic.

TIA

Owen

Well the beeping in reverse sounds like someone fitted an audible warning beeper. But back to the most important matter in hand. If as you say you read these forums, then. Why oh WHY did you buy a money devouring heap of garbage?? When you should have got a proper 4x4 like a disco or Deepender.

Lost my job & i have two property's with the combined mortgage of 6k a month & work is about to commence on 150k's worth of renovation, as i said lost my company car (i have had one for 10years) so this is something to tide me over for 6 months until i get myself sorted with regard to work - not the best time of the year to be made redundant, but thanks for making me feel a whole lot better

I take it you can't help me with the switch then

i think you made a wonderful choice of replacment car. just ignore redhand as he can't afford a freelander.
with regard to the switch have you tried paddocks and/or craddocks for such?

i'm sure you have hours of enjoyment from your freelander and the 1.8 engine is simply the DB's

regards slob

If money is going to be tight then the last thing you want to be driving is a petrol engined gaylander. and this isn't a dig or me having a go. I may not be very subtle or diplomatic. But i mean well. Search some of the posts on here and other forums the 1.8K series engine is an absolute heap of garbage and will probably cost you a fortune in repair bills. Add to that all the other problems inherent in a gaylander like VCU, IRD, cracking chassis, and a whole host of other problems and youend up with a car that spends more time in the workshop than it does on a road.

I would seriously try to get shot of it and buy something else. And I'm sure plenty of other people will tell you the same.

Think i will leave you two to it you seem to make a lovely couple

@Redhand - Who's the chavvy bint in the picture (sig)

Thats what you were doing was it  I like your style

Have you read any of the threads on that link I posted? If you did you will see that every thing I said was the truth. Ok my posting style leaves a little to be desired but. Would you have preferred it if i'd said.

Oh I say old chap I really wouldn't have done that, if I was you, terrible mistake to have made, lovey. They really are frightfully unreliable and expensive to repair. I fear you may well end up having to sell the family silver to pay the mechanic chappies wages.

I see you also have wit in that arsenal of yours...

See what you have done there is to have gone from one end of the scale to the other, in this case 'rude prick*' to 'sarcastic prick*'

*Seeing as you decided to lower the town & excercise the use of your vocabulary i thought maybe if i did the same it might be a little easier for you to digest.
