I hate my freelander, but love it when it works!!

I have had just over a year an 03 Td4 van, bought with 60k miles and a full LRSH....a sound bet or so I thought...!

Heres the list of problems ive had/having in the past year,l and why I will NEVER buy another LR again.

  1. Crap (and expensive) dealer service. Failed to complete service to specs and failed to tell me my undertray had DISAPPEARED after 3 visits to the dealer in a week (one for service, twice for repair)
  2. Car cannot go through PUDDLES without losing turbo power to engine. Dealer tells me ive been WADING too deep??!! Turbo variable nozzle jams and clogs up turbo filter or so im told. This has happened 3 times. (Great off road capabilities..LR insist im wading too deep...erm, ok whatever...)
  3. Fuel pump packed up.
  4. Power steering pump packed up.
  5. Wiper linkage wore out and failed.
  6. Radiator leaks, Radweld in at the mo (LR £450 quote)
  7. Clutch slipping under load or so im told by LR dealer (£600 quote)
  8. Door speakers both replaced due to water running down inside of door.
  9. Turbo lag-turbo boots up and then drops before any power to engine.
Ive never had so much trouble with a motor. are the above common faults or is my 1st name jONAH? Ive spent £2000 on servicing and repairs in 12 months and its only just turned 80k miles!

Im currently in Freelander Hell,

Lets just hope none of your injectors need replacing! Then you will be doing a Basil Fawlty on it,

I have spent £1000 on mine in 8mnths

Freelander = Money pit:(

Aw! cummon Labiarat - 1K in a year is peanuts - i spent 6.5K just in repair bills, in the same time, on my Hippoo. Mind yu - I only put petrol in the Slitty in the last 6 months - no other costs:D. You dont buy a Landrover if you want reliability - do ya?

change you're dealer to an independent garage. Quoted £460 for a 36k service by the main dealer, got my usual garge to do it for £198, and that included a brake fluid change, and a rear brake strip down, clean and adjust. Need to ask around your area, and make sure they're used to freelanders, give them a try.

Change your profile to show where you're from, maybe some other forum members will suggest somewhere.

Main dealer prices are so high 'cos you're subsidising every new landy owner that keeps taking them back for warranty repairs.

Another happy hippo owner eh !:D

I can't understand what your all moaning about. Only the other day I undertook a trip from Hull to Stourbridge and back in a Gaylander and the only thing that sustained any damage was my back and hip. I was going to mention my street cred but that goes without saying.

So you did drive the gaylander back dropped urself in it now grunt.

I'm only guessing but if the BMW turbo engine had worked OK would you have considered it to have been a reasonable vehicle. I've got an old 'L' and I've put 18K on it in the last 10 months £143K now), it's had 4 new Colway ATs (£200) , fitted a Roverron black box ( £70), backbox (£32) and I've changed the oil and filters, wait a minute, ****! Errm... I'm about to change the oil and filters. It will need some front end bushes this MOT and should carry on for a bit longer yet.
Apart from the Rover bits falling off , which I expected and there hasn't been too many of them, it's been sound.(Kiss of Death ?) I love it but not as much as DBE the Defender

I'm so excited - I've had my freelander for 3 months, it's an HSE and on a 55 plate and it's a load of rubbish - been back to the dealer about 4 times - all niggly small things but when you're spending 17 grand on a car you don't expect it immediately.

Well anyway so excited coz finally it's going tomorrow and I'm getting my new Mini Cooper - bit different from a 4x4 but hey the reviews on the Freelander are generally crap and I'd have to say I'd agree.

Lookers Land Rover in Bishops Stortford have no customer service and are as rubbish as the car. Traded in a C230 Mercedes on an 04 plate and boy was that a mistake - just thought this would be more practical with kids.

Beware out there - don't deal with LOOKERS LAND ROVER IN BISHOPS STORTFORD because there is no customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!
