Going to look at two Freelander 2's tomorrow to replace my wifes BMW 3 series estate, one is an S model and he other a GS. I've only had LR Discoveries in the past so at first couldn't see much difference when viewing the adverts, however I've noticed the GS has a little dial for setting the various conditions such as snow, sand etc.

The GS is £600 more so the question is does this little dial thingy make any difference and is it worth having? When I had a Discovery I had the basic model as in my mind there was less to go wrong, is this the same for the Freelander, less is sometimes more?

I had a new FL2 in 2008 (Kept it for 3 yrs) and chose the GS over the S as the terrain control is well worth having and is not the only difference between the models.
I cannot remember what extras I had, but I know I preferred the GS. Besides, you can leave the GS badge on the back whereas the S should be removed ASAP :)

The SE is really where you want to be, as that had loads more kit than either the GS or the S. Good luck - Nice car whichever you choose.

Im told it makes a difference off road( by a person thats used it not just the brochure stuff) but if not going off road then is it worth it?

Makes a different in all weather, especially in winter (as there's a snow setting), for £600, I'd be buying the GS any day.
GS also has things like bluetooth, cd changers, fog lights and so on
