hi,

Owned a 2007 hse for about 1 month. Purchased from a dealer in Norway with warranty with 50000kms run.

Driving my car about 50 mph up an icy hill in auto box and all of a sudden the revs go high and then i lose all gears. The display on the dashboard said "transmission fault" . Stuck half way up a hill on a main road with no traction. The car doesn't react at all when shifted into any of the gears in manual or auto. Girlfriend, 3 year old son , 4 month old daughter in car and -20 ( Norway) not a great scenario.

Luckly the tow truck came within 30 mins and towed us 10 mins to nearest town. Car will be in the landrover workshop tomorrow.

Any ideas ?

that's the best thing about spending 15k on a nice newer model, they pop up with a ickle message telling you what's fooked

Nope..i find its easier just to say ''everything is expensive''...especially norway..nice part you're in..i was in Kragerø for a while..stuck in denmark now! With a working landy, oddly!

If it's any consolation,

My TD5 Discovery did that

... and it ain't the only one I know of

Been told now that the gearbox is shot and they have ordered it from the Uk. Here we go. I think I should have went with my gut feeling about buying a landrover. I hope I'm wrong. I just purchased the rear seat entertainment for the kids and a plug in chip, I'm pretty sure the chip won't be fitted for a good while now!!! I bought the chip because I couldn't get the fuel below 11lts/ 100kms. On a reasonable journey of 20kms between 30/90 kms/hr.

So did mine. Oil cooler pipe became disconnected. No problem once refilled with oil. If it needs a new box I trust the dealer is doing it under warranty!

The dealer is doing my gearbox under warranty and might be ready at the end of the week. Believe that if you like!. Keep you posted.

They have not told me yet exactly what was wrong with the box.

All 2007 FL2 auto's should have been recalled earlier this year for a software update to the gearbox/haldex coupling. The recall was Q106 "transmission slip/flare"
This has just been superceeded by 307-Q106v2, which now covers vehicles up to 2010 see note below from Alex on Freel2 site.

RE: Diesel Automatic Transmission Slip/Flare
Dear Colleagues
A concern has been identified with diesel Automatic transmission 2007-2010MY Freelander 2 vehicles where gearshift changes may progressively become erratic, transmission slip/flare is experienced and transmission warnings are displayed in the instrument cluster. Should these warning signs be ignored, it is possible that a total loss of drive may occur.
Action to be taken
You are requested to contact the owners of the affected vehicles and request that the vehicle is made available at the earliest opportunity for the vehicle to have the transmission recalibrated as identified in the workshop procedure.

As the original recall was earlier in the year, maybe you stand a good chance of LR standing the cost.

Thanks for that mate, could be useful. The garage i bought the car from are accepting that they will pay for the job and claim it back from landrover. The problem is that there is an auto gearbox in norway but the garage say that landrover will not pay for a new one only a reconditioned one !!! So i need to wait until January to get the reconditioned box sent over from the UK and get it fitted. .

What's your thoughts on them supplying a recon and not a new box?

as long as they are a) providing you a courtesy vehicle to keep moving and b) the reconditioned box will have the same length and quality of warranty than a new, shouldn't be an issue.

would deffo be asking for paperwork to indicate that the reconditioned box is indeed reconditioned, not just a working one.
