OK..just dealt with this problem successfully, not that I am saying all M&S light problems are this cause. Mine dropped into limp home mode (3rd&Rev) and the M & S lights started flashing, which in your owners manual says is an electrical problem in your gearbox, but NOT ALWAYS.
According to the auto elec at the dealer,(and this was my problem) this M&S limp home mode is also a result of low voltage. The system does a voltage check on start-up and if the voltage is too low, it reserves the power for things like starting the engine the engine etc and cuts off other services. I trucked mine 1000 klms to a LR dealer for them to find the problem too. I replaced a dieing one with a new battery and when they turned it back on the system did its check and found sufficient voltage to initiate all systems.
So...M&S light isnt necessarily a problem, although its a pain in the #$%^ driving in 3rd, but rather it might be a symptom of another problem.
It would seem that those that have an intermittent M&S light problem might have just got below the systems cut off with over use of electrical gear for a short period and then got over the problem.
Got another good battery you can through in to check? Just a thought.
Thanks for that, I do alot of miles, infact just over 10k in since August!!!
I have the sat nav running, climate control, car transporter with lights on, etc etc...... we shall look at this tomorrow and worth investing in a new battery, might get my neighbour to put a battery test on him to see what level of charge as he works for the AA & I'm a member......
Update then for you all regards my visit this week to Hall Electrical.
Left it with them for a couple of hours and this is what the test results say:
23 Fuel Temp Sensor Curcuit
14 Rear Speed Missing Fault
113 3 Peak Charge Long
137 3 Open Curcuit
ABS 134 Shuttle Valve Switch
They have cleared down all the faults on the assumption that some might have been historic and they also want to know what starts first....we have it booked in for Tuesday this coming week.
Within 24 hours from having had this full test, the M&S started flashing, this has been accompanied today by the ABS,TC & Hill warning lights to come back on after todays driving of 240 miles in dry weather conditions (this seems to be the routine regards the ABS,TC etc).
So anyone like to give some ideas on the above test results to help these guys out and save me a few quid on labour!!
