Hi Karen

Either you have ALL the information on your landy wrong, or it is a VERY rare landy so don't change anything on it.

I am gonna guess that your landy is a 110 300tdi defender. The TD4 engine was fitted to the freelander.

Do I take it that there is no stereo currently fitted? If this is the case you will need a stereo mount. You can either get a dash mounted cradle along the lines of this...

Universal ISO Underdash Tray for Stereo fit on eBay, also, Fascia Plates, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Jun-09 22:00:11 BST)

or this..

RDX Command Console Original & Best Easy Fit/Tdi/Td5 on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 14-May-09 12:48:40 BST)

or you can get a cubby box with stereo mount along the lines of this....

LAND ROVER DEFENDER RHINO RADIO CUBBY BOX on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 07-May-09 21:30:27 BST)

If you don't already have a stereo fitted it would be worth getting someone who knows what they are doing to install and wire up your stereo.

I would reccomend the dash or maybe the passenger footwell obviously the dash is the most accesible and with the vents it allows the heat plates to cool which prevents all your wiring getting burnt. Wherever you feel is suitable really just not somewhere where it will get really hot or interfere with your driving and you should be good to go.

many thanks all!... especially Ratty and J Judge!! ...think i will take your advice and get an expert to do it!... do Halfords do this type of thing??

where abouts do you live ? - it's probably safer (and certainly cheaper) to get someone off here to do it rather than run the risk of yer landy catching fire after having had it fitted by a spotty teenager from Halfords

haha got to love this comment tho :D

Why not just use the correct mounting from Land Rover, part number AWR2277LOY at about £25 brand new?
I bought one of these when I wanted to fit the CD unit in my 90 and it makes fitting both easy and OE.
