First Pay & Play day - advice?

The main thing I done on my first pay n play which was at Avon Dassett in my Disco1 3.9 V8 was drive upto the car park where you could see a fair bit of the site and watched people for about 15minutes, deciding a route to tackle that I knew I could do, and just stayed away from things I wasn't confident with and if I wasn't sure about anything I let others go by and watched them.

I did feel a bit like the new kid on the block with my nice clean disco but within 5 minutes it was nice and muddy and as the day went on and the more I watched people first before doing something, the more confident I got with the ability of the Disco and my own ability.

The main thing is, if you arn't sure just watch someone else, especially the ones with vehicles as the same spec as yours so you get an idea of what your vehicle could get through and if you are driving a route and not too sure, just get out and have a look and ask people for advice.

Above anything else, just take it easy and take your time and enjoy what these amazing vehicles can do.

Hi Jason,

I've bought the same spec disco as you (1995 tho). and as mike said we have fitted diff guards and i have removed the lower valance and cut the end caps on the bumper to match.

Just wanted to know what if any protection you added to your disco and did you take any waterproofing measures in the engine bay?

thanks

I completely removed the front bumper and fitted a heavy duty one with recovery points,
also have a steering guard which has recovery points aswell,
diff guards,
jate rings on the rear
2inch suspension lift
265.75.16 recip mud trial tyres

I'm going to be water proofing it as much as possible this year but i don't really want to go swimming with it.

This was last weekend at 4x4withoutaclub, had a great laugh in the disco. I got a bit ambitious trying to show up a vitara and sooo horribly close to a major c**k up! - the front nearside wheel ended up nearly 5 foot in the air and the car very close to rolling over sideways to the point where it emptied quarter a tank of derv out of the filler cap! I'll get some pics from my mate and post em up. lol Good times tho... have fun! :)

I personaly thing it's one of the best sites i've been too Enjoyed watching some of my mate going down the steps they called them. My mate Tim in his 110 almost had it sitting on his headlights on one bit. theres video on the photobucket link in my signatur look for the Album Aldermaston

it was the first time i've been there tbh, but yeah really impressed by the site, very well organised too. some of the black routes make me wish i had a roll cage just so i can try em out! :D

I got caught out on one bit I didn't see one sign and ended up having to go over one mound down into the dip with water in it and when the car started to level up the valence caught the bank split the valance and pushed the fog light back.

Seen a new bumper for it think its called Rock Bumper cheaper than than the standard LR part:):)

I like taking vids especially of other peeps you can pick bitsup from them

Always have a look a someones car thats trying to give you advise. A couple of times i have had some help when stuck and almost done there advise but then realised there in a ****ty scrappy offroader that they dont really care about and not my baby where it would bugger somthing.

Hi Mike,

I'm just down the road from the Aldermaston site - not yet got up the courage to go and try it out but am thinking of going along to the February event. If you see a bloke in a scruffy E reg Ninety looking a bit lost and worried, that'll probably be me!

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Yeah come along! I'll be in a standard looking H-reg RR Classic and my mate is in an M-reg Disco, both V8's and we'll be looking lost and confused..and possibly stuck!! :)
