Currently messing about with a friends ex military Series 3. We think it came back to Britain in the 1990s from somewhere in N Africa. It was painted white and looked a bit IFOR like. Unlike the earlier landies the serial numbers don't give a build date....Anyone know how to discover the actual build date of an ex military Landie? Can it be done even?

Give the first 5 or 6 numbers and we might have a clue. Are there any extra military plates (like passenger side of the seatbox at floor level) that could give an idea.
Is it British? Do you know the military reg no?

Davec thanks for replying

Will check tomorrow and let you kow. There is a plate at floor level on the drivers side but no maintainance dates stamped on it. It also has the oil cooler fitted in front of the rad. As it is right hand drive I reckon its of British origin. It has a truck cab now but it originally had a full canvas tilt.

Okay data plate infor as follows:

Top of plate reads "Truck Utility CL 1/2 ton 4x4 W/Trailer attachments Rover Series 3 (P)

Chassis No 90139266A
Vehicle No 07GN39
Cont No WV 8765R 2993
Code No 1621.0778

Can anyone decipher all that?

Off the top of my head, GN would be mid to late seventies.
Not off the top of my head, it is definitely not tax exempt.
If you really want know the year of manufacture, the British Motor Heritage at Gaydon can tell you, but will charge for the information.
