Currently working on a tatty ex military S3 for a mate. It came into civvy street in the 1990s and he has been told he it is NOT eligible as a tax exempt vehicle as it was first registered in 1990s. But I thought it was the build date that counted.............. What is the real sp on this?

yer i did - it's nice to see Applecross and Skye on TV but that prog was just pants

so many things wrong with it - like "i'm on my way over to Skye" - yet he's shown driving down a road that's half way back to Inverness

"i'm spending a week living off what i have caught or cooked myself" - and he's shown whizzing across towards to mainland to a spot where he catches 2 small mackerel having used 20 quids worth of fuel

he's supposedly in the middle of nowhere - yet just to the right of where his cottage was there's a rather large, ugly and very well guarded MOD underwater warfare research station

"there's a tradition where everyone helps rebuild houses" - yes they do, for 25 quid an hour

last night's episode he gets taken to a "secret inland lake" where there's a massive trout - every fecker knows where that is

"the nearest supermarket is an hour a way" - is it feck there's a little mini mart in Applecross next to the pub

To you in the know i guess that is a bit annoying but it was good entertainment! He comes across as a likeable sort of chap and clearly was pretty aware of his limitations. It did make me wanna go there, looked like a stunning spot, (as did your pics!) - and you know these telly-editing types do like to exaggerate a bit about the remoteness, makes for better telly! I guess you could say it's Skye TV!!!

it was better than watching the antiques roadshow

that Times article is about right - he effectively just had a long holiday there, if he was hungry and couldn't be arsed he could afford to go to the pub, he didn't really have to grow and raise/kill he food as do the crofters

made me laugh when he was moaning about the bad weather towards the end of August - that was quite a nice looking day

he needed to be up there in a tent in Feb watching the water lapping up against the edge of your inflatable mattress (which needed blowing up every 2 hours) and not daring to go to sleep in case the tent gets ripped to shreds (again) in the force 9

is often nice to get home after those trips for a rest ...

Thanks for the info... just to wander off topic as well :) I bet we all liked Monty's crew cab. Tried to convince the missus one would be great buy!!

Cheers for the plug Sean :) It's a while since I've been on here, almost two years in fact

Paul

stand up and salute folks we have my wifes hero here !

i have to admit that we both are avid readers of your blog, we got married at Isle Ornsay on Skye last may over looking the lighthouse (outdoors, and on the only wet day they had there in 9 weeks) and stayed at The Braes looking across at the chunks of concrete growing out of the sea - we are a very few days away from getting the keys to our own little place at the end of the road up in Orkney - your living the sort of life we want to be living and you make me very jealous :)

here's a few pics from then (you can probably guess which pictures were taken by me)

Lovely pictures Sean and I'm flattered by your comments, just to get things slightly back on track. Whilst you do need road tax on Raasay (unless your vehicle is exempt) it's one of the few places you can legally tax a vehicle without an MOT :D

And here's what became of my last Series Landy

Cheers, Paul
