Finally took the vege plunge

After yet another pay cut and loss of earnings, had enough of brown ever increasing the price of derv, put a 25% mix of SVO to start with as a trial, if all goes well, I have already sorted a supply of WVO and the filter system is almost complete in the shed.
I know it has been covered many many times just wanted to give my 2p worth
Any one else planning on doing the same?

Hope you have better luck than me.I tried it 50/50 wouldn't rev, so tried about 80/20 still ran like a bag of **** and stalled at junctions, so I gave up.Goes like a bomb with a bottle of Reddex in it.

done 90miles so far and seems smoother and quieter than ever, fingers crossed )

Thats ok then.ya best get some fuel and oil filters at the ready because the veg will lift out the ****e in the system and bung the first set of filters pretty quick.

they hate it when you tell em that your filthy horrible land rover runs on WVO and anyway what makes them so speacial after all I dont fly off sking every chance i get.

not at the moment as im running on SVO, but at the end of the month I will have my 1st batch of WVO ready to go. I will let you know haha

Put the old chip fryer oil in the 300tdi aprox 60derv 40oil after filtering the old oil through a fine funnel filter x4 times.Seemed the thing to do after cleaning up the back yard at my daughters pub,she had just changed the oil in the kitchen fryer and this 20ltr container just sat there haunting me.The first attempt had the car slow down and would not pick up.After taking off the top of the lift pump and blowing out the small round filter i restarted the engine and was amazed to find the engine after a few miles seemed to run smoother and pulled better.I have seen other peoples encounters and they all seem to have first experienced muck disslodged on the first flush through and running on mixed fuel.Next step is a heated fuel filter to help thin the used oil it has been ordered but has not arrived yet.So the disco and myself can go to the family pub and have a fill now.cheers

You said you have a filter system set up. I hope you are aware that you cant just filter wvo. It has to be processed with methanol and potassium. If its not processed properly, you are leaving yourself open to all sorts of problems.

Hi Dave Jem, If i was producing my own Biofuel then I would be using caustic soda and methanol, but as it will only be a 50/50 mix straight WVO willbe fine, im sure there are many guys on here who can vouch for that. going to fit some fuel filter heaters asap.

NONSENSE! Of course he can. And my bet is you haven't tried it anyway.

Veg Oil STRAIGHT is a perfectly good fuel, and even my TD5 Disco runs better on that than it does on disgusting trashy pump diesel fuel.

Do not confuse WVO Waste Vegetable Oil or SVO Straight Vegetable Oil with BIODIESEL.

BIODIESEL needs to be processed from WVO or SVO, using methanol and sodium hydroxide (there are other ways) and that makes a fuel that is very similar to diesel, and fine in cold weather. BioDiesel is probably the ultimate fuel for all diesel Landies. I make lots. It all goes into my TD5 Disco.

WVO and SVO may thicken up in winter, but there are ways to deal with that.

Good to hear, sorted a weekly supply of WVO, built a good fitration system, as far as i am concerned... happy days, the old girl drives smoother than ever.

Me too - it's a great solution and saves me a fortune in cash. Welcome to the world of smugness !

I run 100% SVO with no ill effects - i've added a pump preheat manifold (£30 from flea-bay) in preparation for winter. Mucky runs smoother, quieter, and oddly has slightly better MPG.

There is an awesome place stateside that does heating element kits that wrap around the injector lines and filters to heat the whole system - something i'm going to invest in very soon.

If i know it's going to be a long weekend away, or the weather is going to be cold i'll switch to a 70svo-30d mix which works really well.

I'm in a ****e area for WVO - all my local chippies sell it back to their bloody suppliers last lot of WVO I blagged I found it was mostly fat and sludge, so 40ltrs of blag ended up as 21 useable WVO.

I would like to add a fuel filter heater, heard of some motor bike handle bar heaters being wrapped around, sounds good to me, any links for ebay or website mate?
