Yes I know another tyre question but I have search with no result. I need to replace all 5 tyres as theyre all shagged. Question is do I go for fat or thin tyres? What's best in the mud n snow? I'm guessing thin as it cuts through it. But If so y do people have gurt big uns? Cheers!

Having whooping gurt tyres has absolutely nothing to do with penis size paranoia :p

I have 265/75/16's and as soon as they've worn out I'll go back to 235/85/16's. When offroading they throw mud all up my side windows and when driving in winter they throw salt up em.

If you want to drive around on fields, use phat ones coz they don't trash the fields. If you want to drive around on muddy lanes, use thin ones as they will sink to the grippy stuff better. If you want birds to think you have a bigger penis, despite what you might think, just stick with what you have. If you get big tyres and don't need em, they will instantly cotton on to the fact that you are compensating for something else less impressive.

From general physics, the fatter the tyre, the more surface area, so less chance of sinking and more area for grip. :D

As MHM said....depends on substrate.

Fat tyres can 'float' on slippery surfaces when thinner ones can cut through to find a better grip.

Obviously a bigger footprint will often give you better grip but with thin tyres you have the option of lowering the pressure to achieve the same as a fat tyre but if you find yourself slipping around on the surface and you have big boots on there's not alot you can do

of course, the other side of that arguement is that thin tyres cut thru the mud until they hit solid ground underneath, which gives you grip. :D

True, very true, i can understand that because the army use thin tyres, but there can be very deep mud sometimes and what about lose sufaces and stuff like wet grass where you just spin? I say go for inbetween. :D

 Not you to!!!
Anyone want to by some big tyres??:(

OP if your happy with what you had buy the same size again.

dont think theres gonna be many on here who will go out and say "damn i wish i had bought fat/skinny tyres instead"

if you are planning on doing proper off roading then your gonna get stuck whatever you have but the likes of Jay, spyderman and Wiltshirelandyman are the folk to ask. Could be worth searching the off road section.
